So I have a 2007 Base Gen II. So no Nav, no Backup, no Aux yada yada. While test driving Gen IIs I noticed one (with nav I think) that had a large number of user reset-able service reminders. Also the screen had a black and orange theme rather than the blue and green theme of my 07. Is mine missing these because it isn't a nav model? Is the different color scheme available to me?
I can't attest for the service reminders (I have an '08 package II) but the black and orange theme is available if you look under your Display settings.
Thanks guys. I'll have to look into it. Anyone else with a base able to shed light on the service reminders?
I have also wondered this when I bought mine in 2008. I had rented one with a different experience. It had smoother transitions and messages. No navigation was present and it would even play MP3's. Once I rolled off the lot with this base 2008 it was apparent that I got the Prius no one wanted and it didn't even beep when I locked the door. Apparently it was never meant to and no one told me any different. However, I would love to see if the MFD can do what you speak of but after searching countless times I still can't find ANYTHING that relates to this. Does anyone know what this is called? Or possibly why there are different versions?
i drive a 2004 prius 2 and have loads of maintanance reminders....even the option to add own notes/reminders.
I have 2005 with Nav and have the service reminders. The service reminders are part of the Nav package.
There are two versions of the MFD in the 2006-2009 model years. Vehicles without the backup camera will use the "older" 2004-2005 MFD with the green/blue/grey/beige scheme. Vehicles with a backup camera (With or without nav) will have the higher resolution screen with the orange or green scheme. Maintenance reminders (you enter them manually, other than the "MAIN'T REQ'D" light which the dealer should reset after each service) are available with those equipped with the navigation system.
Sorry I cannot really help on this one. There was a big change in 2005/2006 when the resolution was improved as was a problem with soldered joints on the printed circuit. I have not come across any information on changes for 2009 at which time the gen2 stopped production. John (Britprius)
I'm unaware of any differences on the 2009 model (which is the last year for the 2nd generation in North America). It's possible Toyota made a minor adjustment and didn't publish it externally.
