Hello all I just installed some DRL from Phillips called "DRL DayLight 4". The install was fairly easy and I think lights look good , however I am not sure how legal it might be to run these , such as with factory drl or at night with low beams? If I run them with factory DRL then i would have 4 separate lights on at one time? and if I run them at night then I dont know if I would run into problems with the law since i would have bright DRL and low beams. As of now they are set up to turn off when low beams are on and can choose to run the factory DRL or not so i dont think that will be a problem but would like to hear some thoughts and comments?
Here are some pics . Side note also had some Hella 500's Black Magic "Driving Lights " installed but removed those, here ......... 2012 Prius with Hella 500s installed.... Thoughts? | PriusChat
I confess I never run any DRLs as I never turn off my headlights. But I do not think they are illegal. (Laws will vary by location and we do not know your location so YMMV)
I don't think there is any problem running them with ur factory DRLs. As far as at night with the low beams.....u might have issues as they don't focus the light on the road.....they spread it so they might blind other drivers. I don't see any fogs but if u plant on getting fogs just know that Cali DOT states that u can only have 4 foward light on at any given time. On a side note.....I love the Spitfire. It it a '76?
Yes , Im aware of the DRL light pattern and it is why im only runing HID lowbeams now. I have the ability to run 2 or 4 DRL at the moment , however dont know if i should. And yes its almost like a spitfire its a Triumph GT6 but it is a familly menmers "project" car thats been sitting for years now, thinkig of fixing it up for myself.
Haha.....its a GT6. Kinda hard to tell from here. I was looking for the buldge in the hood. My mom has a '78 Spitfire.....been trying to talk her out of it
Probably not legal in CA. But if you want to know for sure, just drive over to the local CHP office and ask.
I might just do that. Some one I know just got a ticket for not having driving lights on although DRL's were on
I some times have my LED fogs on with my DRLs & have never been looked at twice. I do agree with dogfriend......u could always stop at the CHP & ask.
Yeah, I thought DRL were standard on all 2012+ Priuses. Also I think running DRL + headlight together during the day or night is legal. At least that's the way they are on the Bimmers. The DRL is the angel eye ring, and will stay on regardless if the headlight is on or not. However if you drive around at night, or rain (using your wiper) using only the DRL it's illegal and you will get a ticket. Headlight is still required.
The Daylight 4 DRLs you got don't dim when the headlights are on, they were designed to be turned off when the parking/headlights are turned on. The Daylight 8 DRLs dim when the parking/headlights are activated making them legal for use at night. The Prius DRLs also don't dim, so rewiring them to stay on when the headlights are on is also potentially illegal and can throw up a lot of distracting glare for on oncoming traffic.
Yes, this is true ... They are wired now where all DRL's ( stock and aftermarket ) turn off when lowbeam or parking lights are on. Better Pics/video to come soon
