My car very politely unlocks itself at my touch, but I can't figure out if it is supposed to lock itself when I leave it. I wish it would but the only way I can get it to lock it with the remote. Am I missing something?
My 2010 has two small slits (sensor) towards the front of the driver's door handle, on top. You can see them in the daylight. Put your finger on the sensor while the key is in your pocket............. you'll get a beep and hear the doors lock.
+1 This is another case of salesman not doing a proper job of helping the consumer. They should have explained that to you.
And, you can have the car adjusted so that unlocking the driver's door will unlock all the passenger doors... Or not. Your choice.
If the system does not react when you touch the front of the handle top (eg. if you have gloves on), lightly squeeze the top and bottom of the front of the handle between your thumb and forefinger
Somehow I had the idea it would lock without touching the car when the key was not nearby but I'm happy to find out that touching the handle activates the lock. Thanks to all for your help!! I just don't like fishing around for my keys now that I'm out of the habit. I'm really loving the keyless locks and start. I'll never get another car without this feature.
How does one go about doing this? I looked in the settings on the Entune console and didn't see an option to change this.
It should be in your owner's manual. It involves pressing a couple of buttons on the remote at the same time as I recall. It changes between all locks and driver's door only each time you press the buttons.
Thanks. I really have to get to reading that thing... ETA: If anyone is interested, pressing the unlock or panic button for 5 seconds while holding down the lock button on the smart key will toggle the setting between unlocking only the drivers door and unlocking all doors when the driver's door handle unlock sensor is activated. The car will send two tones to confirm the toggle.
Thanks for sharing! I thought I had to go to the dealer for this to be changed! I'm going to run outside and try it to see if it works! iPhone ?
And it does! It's rare that I go to the Prius without something else to throw in the back seat- so this is great- thanks for sharing! iPhone ?
This is a welcomed feature. In my BMW the only way I could get all the doors to unlock would be by opening the passenger door first. I guess the car assumed I was being a gentleman and open the drivers door too. Now that I have this feature the ladies can now open the door themselves. Boy, I love equal rights :chuckle:
Hmm... After combing through owner's manuals on the toyota.com website, it appears this procedure doesn't appear in the manual for the V; the procedure only appears in the Gen III and C manuals. Seems odd that Toyota would leave this feature off of the full size offering...
