Hello all, I'm having a problem with my Prius, for the last three days when I come to a stop and brake, the car wants to keep on going and not stop. It also happens on the freeway when I brake a little too. I've seen the slip indicator about three times when this happens but goes off right away without any beeps. I checked my brake pads and they look alright, the rotors do look a little thin. The car has 110,000 miles I bought it when it had 87,000 miles so I do not know if it ever had a brake job done. Any advise will be very appreciated. Thank You..
Gen 2 Priuses can go more than 110K miles on the original brakes. What if you slam on the brakes? How about if you brake while in neutral? Any warning lights other the the skid indicator? Any (new) odd noises while braking? Are the tires mismatched in size and model? Two matching tires on the front and two matching (of different make and model) should be ok. I've run that way for ages. If you have some other goofy setup, that could be a problem. The skid light will blink while doing light braking and going over broken pavement or big bumps. That's normal. See Poll: Are Prius brakes a problem? | PriusChat.
Do you really mean that you have to press harder on the pedal to get braking action? I know it's just a manner of speech, but the car does not "want" anything. Do the regen braking arrows on the MFD indicate normally when coming to a stop? It sounds like maybe the pressure pump is not working well, but that should set DTC if that happens.
You can try registering the car at Toyota Owners Official Web Site: Service Coupons, Owner's Manuals, Service Scheduling And More to see if you can tell if brake work was done by a dealer. I doubt it needed brakes by the time you bought it.
No warning lights at all, I have not tried braking in neutral and all tires 4 tires are the same size they are only a few months old
The only reason why I ask about neutral is that if you do that, you'll be only engaging the friction brakes when in N and you shouldn't have any regen. Be sure to have PLENTY of room to stop in case it doesn't. If you look over 299,999+ Mile Club | Page 27 | PriusChat, 2 fas 4 u was still on his original brakes at 457K miles on his 09 Prius.... He traded it in at 465K miles. I'd imagine almost all of that was highway driving though.
its being doing it a lot lately even when i parked somewhere a soon as i press the brake pedal the cars pulls forward.
I see. It's not that likely that it was needed at 87K miles though. It looks like the 2 Gen 2 (04) Priuses at Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity - Hybrid Electric Vehicles didn't need brake pad or shoe replacement even though they both passed 150K miles.
Was the brake fluid changed? If so, perhaps it wasn't bled correctly. (I'm just throwing out guesses. I'm not anywhere close to being a repair expert.)
On Sunday I did drove through a hole on the road and it felt really bad but the car didn't accelerate at the moment. It started doing it later on the same day, so i'm wondering if something got damage on the front wheel.
