I have family that live in Roseville and they love it there. Might want to check that area out since it's fairly close.
Roseville is a beautiful area. Great mall, good places to eat, good school districts. I will be opening a dental office soon in Roseville and can't wait to buy a home in the area. Yuba City is fine too...just depends on what you want. There are good areas and bad areas just like all places. Yuba City has a more small town feel to it.
I will be needing a good dentist ! ) Going to mine for the last time tomorrow , check up and cleaning.
Wow the pictures of California are amazing . In the busyness of moving and getting everything together I had forgotten how beautiful it is out there . I really hope it worms up soon . We should be hitting Colorado about the 14 and were hoping to do some tent camping . My wife and I are in mid-forties and the temperature effects us more now . Lol
As far as entitlements go, I feel that the majority of kids these days feel they are entitled. It has nothing to do with their nationality or race. Visit the average high school or community college and you'll shake your head in frustration. lol
I have to throw my two cents in here. I just got back home in Arkansas from a two week visit to see my daughter in San Jose. She lived for years in Orange County , and we used to come out every winter and spend a month with her. Let me first acknowledge what a great state California is to visit, but on my retirement I could never think of living anywhere nice in either SoCal or NorCal, everything, and I mean everything, is just a lot higher there. My daughter has a great job with a dotcom company but it also takes a huge amount just to live. Also , as she is single, her tax burden is huge. On the other hand , she could move back to Arkansas, and do the same work for a lot less pay and benefits, and probably her standard of living would decrease by a significant amount. Oh yeah, one thing we have a lot less of is traffic, going into San Francisco makes a country boy blue. I had a great time though, hope to be back before too long. Muir Woods and Muir Beach Overlook were two of the most beautiul places I have ever been to, period. Charlie
Personally I really love the Grass Valley, Nevada City area. I would consider it a place to retire. More to the Nevada side, I can always drive back into CA. No state income tax, that's a winner for me!! I first was sent to Grass Valley in '80 to attend school at the GVG Video Systems company. I should have bought a house right then and there, rented it, them moved in in a few years. Oh well, should have could have would have...
I like that area too. Auburn is my favorite though. Close to everything yet far enough away to be beautiful.
Here's a fun thing to do in California this June Announcing "To Go Before 2013" - A National Prius Owners Celebration | June 14-16 2013 It's funny, my wife and I were just talking the other day about figuring out how we could swing a place on the Central Coast to visit for a few months out of the year.
