Wow! This is a great Forum, I bought my new Prius plug in May 2012, it's loaded with everything, the only problem is that the clock loses about 2 minutes per month,I've taken it to 2 dealers and they can't fix, Does anyone else have the same problem? I've told Toyota that I can't understand why my $42,000 Prius's clock can't tell me the correct time but my $10 Timex watch can! Thanks Dennis
I would suggest your estimated mpg readout won'tbe very accurate either, nor will the dealer "fix" it. Looks like your going to have to live with this one, the rest of us are doing just that.
Thanks Guys---I'am still confused, I've only had the Prius Plug in, are you saying that the clocks are off on the regular Prius's also? Gosh they have been making them for about 10 years now, I would think they would have fixed the clock, ect. by now! thanks again Dennis
not sure what the problem is, but you get used to it after awhile. at least they make it easy with the minute and hour buttons right in front of you. i usually change it when i hear the time on the radio. my wife's last 3 camry's are the same way. what car did you come from that had a perfect clock?
A1990 Camry--also my 1995 Chev S-10 Truck Both of them keep correct Time, Gosh it can't be that hard to make a correct clock or am I just to Fussy? Actually I'am not that concerned about the clock but if it is faulty what else is wrong with the car--thanks for your help-Dennis
Your $42,000 Prius is the same as a $23,000 Prius but with a larger battery and other frills. the base components are the same.
My GenII clock has been spot on for 2 years. I have only adjusted the minutes once since I bought it, and all the other times I just use the hour button to change between daylight savings and timezones. The clocks have a tolerance, like all crystals/oscillators do. Your's is within tolerance, but not at 0%. Even your PC loses time. Disconnect from the internet for a few weeks and your clock will be very wrong. Every day your computer connects to an internet timeserver and synchronizes with an atomic clock. Without it, everything would be off.
It is more difficult to make a car clock keep accurate time than it is a wristwatch. A watch is kept at more constant temperature by being on your body temperature wrist or a room temperature nightstand at night. A car clock sees far bigger temperature swings. That said, Prii clock accuracy still sucks even by car clock standards. It seems like they made them deliberately slow so no matter how bad they are, you can adjust them easily with the minutes button by adding minutes. The adjustment doesn't allow you to subtract minutes.
not sure why they can't make the clock more accurate, but i don't think it's defective. i suppose you can ask your dealer to change it and see what they say. as for the rest of the car? no worries, as close to perfection as you can get.
I knew exactly what it was when I bought it, I also realize I paid way too much! But I would still do it again! I love the car! Comparing a Lithium-ion Battery to a regular Prius Battery is like comparing steak to cheap hamburger, Dennis
Thanks XS650--That makes me feel a lot better, I will put that clock out of my mind, were you into motorcycles? I still have 2 Kaw H1 500's in the garage Dennis
If you have scangauge or some other OBD2 scanner plugged in all times, it interferes with car computer, including clock. I has been posted about it before.
