Thanks, for the second time.... just disabled the Reverse and backup beeps on my new 2012 PIP.

Only had to change AT SH 07C0 to AT SH 7C0 to get the session going (but I knew this from working on my 2012 Five back in March).

    Cheers... Rob

I see you are from Fairfield,
Growing up my family went to Fairfield every summer, we stayed at the beach 69 reef rd, by the reef at the lighthouse

Just open Terminal. It's already on your Mac!

    Hi Guys.
I have had my 2010 model T4 (UK) for about a month. Last weekend I fitted the parking assist kit with sensors in the rear bumper. All well and good. Problem was with the reverse beeper sounding loudly it was harder to hear the parking assist beeper than it should be.
Thanks to this thread and a helpful bunch of guys mostly in the USA, together with my Scan Gauge II and the codes earlier in this thread, I have been able to change the reverse gear beeper to 'one beep' when reverse is selected. Really satisfying that!! Very many thanks.

    Ron,

I installed new horns in my prius, and it sounds like a real horn (just my Acura TL-S in fact). Search the modifications forum---there's a great how to guide. It's really plug and play. All you need is a small sized phillips screw driver (IIRC). You will scratch up the skin on your hands, but for a couple of scratches, it's worth it.

    GL

EDIT: Here is the link to the HORN DIY:
I started by buying FIAMM Freeway Blaster high and low note horns on Amazon, just $21+shipping for everything you need:

72102 FIAMM Freeway Blaster Horn High Tone
72112 FIAMM Freeway Blaster Horn Low Tone

    Read more: http://priuschat.com/threads/horn-upgrade-diy.88297/#ixzz2Lgedmp7a

You will also need a set of metric wrenches in the DIY. It was easy to do...GL.

I think everyone is interested in what you are supposed to do in Terminal. What do you type (in what order)? I would guess:

    1) type 'telnet' (I'm not sure how to get telnet to open a connection to the car...what port/name? Also, how does one set a baud rate with telnet from Terminal? Read in the paragraph below)
    2) AT SH 07C0
    3) 21 ac (it should return with a code of 00 if the beep is on)
    4) 3b ac 40 (this should turn off the beep)
    5) 21 ac (to confirm that the code now reads 40)

    But from reading this:
Mac OS X leopard, TERMINAL settings: Apple Support Communities

It would seem that Terminal wont be a good telnet app. zTerm seems to be a good app:
Download ZTerm X for Mac - Terminal emulation program. MacUpdate.com

However, the trouble is that the drivers for the ELM327 cable only appears to be windows. Has anyone been able to find drivers for the Mac? Has anyone been able to plug in their ELM327 USB cable into a Mac? What about the bluetooth devices? Are they Mac plug and play?

    Tx

do not know about the Mac, but the "AT SH 07C0" needs to be "AT SH 7C0". Doesn't work if you use the leading zero on the device ID.

I did this mod and it worked great in the end but I have a question. On my first attempt I somehow typed "3abc40" instead of bac (not used to this goofy android keyboard). It returned a single line of "7f 3a 11"

I just wanted to make sure I didn't mess something up? It seems like the single line is just a query response and didnt actually change anything but im not sure. Thanks

The "7f" type reply seems like a "got your message, working on it" reply. The fact that there wasn't another reply immediately after it seems like a "nobody home" situation. So my guess is that your typo was ignored.

In general, "21 xx yy" messages query something, while "3b xx yy" messages set the same status. I haven't seen a "3a" type message, and I doubt that there is any such defined.

On the other hand, watch carefully for anything different. Welcome to the Prius Hacker's Club...:)

thanks for the reply. I have been diligently watching for any unusual behavior from the car and havent seen any. definitely will be triple checking before hitting Send in the future.

For anyone still wondering about Wowzer's question, yes Mac drivers are available for the ELM327 USB based devices. Not sure on the Bluetooth front.

I can't post links yet, but the drivers are linked in post #217 in this thread. You'll have to download the right build of drivers to match your OS (32-bit or 64-bit). The drivers only list compatibility up to 10.7, but I'm running 10.8 and the 64-bit driver works fine.

With ZTerm and the guidance from this thread, I was able to turn the annoying backup beep on my wife's "new" 2010 Prius down to one. This thread and everyone in it rocks!

Hi sdings, can you elaborate a little further on how you were able to get it to work on your Mac? Did you use the bluetooth ELM 327 adapter? Also, with ZTerm, how were you able to connect to the device?

    Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: Nvm, figured it out messing around with ZTerm! Used my BT ELM 327 adapter, connected to my MBP, opened ZTerm, selected the OBDII device in modem preferences and followed the instructions posted here. Had to enter the commands a couple times in order for it to stick.. Thanks all!!!

Someone posted the instructions a few pages back for how to do a Gen II. Worked fine on mine. No plugging in things required.

Should work fine on any Gen II.

I'm at Carson Toyota and they want to charge 57 dollars, even though I bought the car a few months ago. I'm having radio issues too, I told them cancel my oil change and just fix the radio under warranty. I'm not going to give them another nickel for their poor customer service. believe me I talked to finance manager, sales manager, and the original sales guy whom I bought the car from and they are all acting like its out of their hands.

Normally you'll get a survey from Toyota on satisfaction and that's how you can provide feedback. I had the same issue and I get they need to make some money, but in the spirit of customer service, I think it should be free to adjust.

I do have to go back there for the new radio I have to get installed, I'll look up Diane and see if she can help me.. I'm sure they will not like to here tht I will not give them good ratings or recommend them.
