Having the same issue with my 2012. Dealer was nice but found nothing. Only happened a few times. Very unnerving to hear when it happens though.

Has anyone that got the TSB manifold done, has the problem come back again, after doing a known induced condition?

i.e. 1.) Cooler temps, 2.) interrupt the warm up stage on the previous day 3.) move washed car from drive into garage etc.

Yes, had the IM installed in March.

Had some damp, cool weather recently with no occurrence, yet. If owner's are having problems with the 12's, I wonder if Toyota actually got it right?

It just happened to me for the first time yesterday. I have about 6k miles and started the car to back out of my garage. As soon as the ICE came on I noticed a vibration that was more than normal and it lasted about 10 seconds. Once I put the car in Drive it went away. It was a cool day but not cold, hope this doesn't get worse in the winters.

Maybe an occasional bottle of Techron would help.

My solution, so far, is to use the HEET additive during the winter months.
No shaking after I started using it.

I had the same experience this morning for the first time. However, I washed the car yesterday. At one point, it seemed as though the car was going to stall. I'm not concerned after reading the posts and will try to remember to drive the car around the block following the next car wash.

Sorry for my english but it's not my natal language;) . We own a 2012 Prius with 4000km only. That happened two or three times to us.Wth... I stopped the engine and checked the oil level... I normally bring my cars up to 200000km and never ear something like this before. I do some reserch on the net and found the intake manifold TBS for the 2010-2011 but mine is a 2012...with newer intake? I'm really not sure the problem is only the intake desing, somebody know what really different between old and newer? I think it's a misfire or bad timing, valve timing or a syncro problem of Electric/Fuel engines... I really wich that toyota work strongly on that by tring to reproduce it...finding the real reason.

If you are experiencing this more often than 1 time a year during cold months, how about trying something?

BTW a little update, at almost 30k miles, it only happened to me two times, it was below zero degrees in the mornings, in 2011.

    So Try What I Did:
After that time I started using 93 octane in the cold months and used one Heet additive treatment in the tank during each cold month or six weeks. If there was a warm spell I did not re-add the Heet treatment but kept using the 93 octane until spring time. I try to use the top tier gas name brands in my area like Exxon or Shell, FWIW.

Removing water from condensation is what I am thinking. True or not, I have never had an issue after that time.

If you try this and still have the issue please let us/me know.

I have not had the TSB fix done, because people with the fix are reporting the same problem.

Even newer models that should include the fix are still knocking why bother since I don't see it happen anymore.

If anyone reports back the knocking with this advise I will update the post accordingly.

    my2cents.

Almost done with the cars first winter (13k mi) and I have yet to experience the issue again? I may try the higher octane gas but have been using regular to date

The latest is that Toyota Customer Care, after two different email contacts, is involved and talking with the dealership. Bottom line is that until the dealer can recreate the problem nothing will be done. I've had it happen three times now and I believe I can duplicate it but I don't think the dealership can. Also, temperatures are now starting to warm up (47° right now and only dropping to 30° tonight) so this issue is probably dead until next winter. Does anyone know of a higher complaint level than Customer Care?

This just happened to my 2012 after it sat for a week. It was about 25 degrees out. The car ran very roughly and then the gas engine died. Got a screen warning saying to stop driving the vehicle and the check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer and they are replacing the air intake manifold gasket. At least in my case, looks like the manifold problem has not been fixed with the redesign.

Nope, it appears the Toyota engineers didn't get it right with the redesign. Apparently they are the fourth or fifth revision of the intake manifold. I don't like how they went to a plastic manifold.

Anyone have a pic of the first gen 3, before and also the new 2012-13 intake manifold?
Someone online mentioned they bought the fix and did it themselves.

they did replace the entire manifold. At first he said just the gasket, but when I picked up they had done it all.

While you did that, did you find an unusual fluid collection inside IM?

YES......I certainly did......upon removing the IM, I was able to "Pour" several tablespoons (more or less) of water from the lowest part (where the throttle/body attaches) of the IM......the engine had been shut/down after a 2o/25 mi. commute......FWIW.....
