I'm pitching a big sale soon, and the company also has some sports holdings. I would like to make some samples for them to send over to the sports department. Unfortunately, I know nothing about sports! I've got a partial list of their associations here: Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks Texas Rangers St. Louis Cardinals Detroit Tigers Frisco RoughRiders St. Louis Rams Wright State University Basketball, Dayton Bombers Dayton Dragons Boston Bruins and Celtics Nashville Predators Cincinnati Reds Buffalo Sabres Charlotte Knights Wichita Wranglers Columbus Blue Jackets Milwaukee Brewers (this can't really be a team name!) Peoria Chiefs Buffalo Bills Toronto Blue Jays and Argonauts Edmonton Oilers Chicago Bears Tampa Bay Lightning Edmonton Trappers Arizona Diamondbacks Could you guys point me towards any really important teams in this list? I'd love to do a few with good large fan bases, but don't know if that's possible given the choices. Thanks guys - I'm just totally useless when it comes to sports =P
Go with some of the pro teams in the regions that make sense: Dallas Stars - Hockey Dallas Mavericks - Basketball Texas Rangers - Baseball St. Louis Cardinals - Baseball **very well liked team** Detroit Tigers - Baseball **Lots of history** St. Louis Rams - Football Boston Celtics - Basketball **very well liked team** Cincinnati Reds - **Lots of history** Milwaukee Brewers - Baseball (this can't really be a team name! yes it is) Buffalo Bills - Football Toronto Blue Jays - Baseball Edmonton Oilers - Hockey Chicago Bears - Football **well liked team, had a better year than expected** Arizona Diamondbacks - Baseball
wow, you are great! That gives me a few different sports - I really appreciate it. I had heard of the Buffalo Bills, and maybe the Cincinnati Reds, but I was otherwise lost. Much easier to look up logos of popular teams than to try to decide who is popular - thanks again =)
Who is your audience? Would they include Canadian folks? You might want to also include some Canadian teams in the mix. Some notes that you might find handy - Edmonton Oilers have won 5 Stanley Cups in their history. Hockey greats such as Wayne Gretzky, Grant Fuhr, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri Boston Bruins - part of the NHL Original 6, hockey greats such as Bobby Orr Tampa Bay Lightning - 2004 Stanley Cup champs
I've starred all the teams I felt were most important seeing that they are in the major leagues (NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA)...minor league teams unfortunately don't have anywhere near the fan base that major leaguers have, although what few fans they do have tend to be diehards. And of course I can't help but comment on my favorite team, the Dallas Stars (NHL-hockey). 1999 Stanley Cup Champions, near the top of the league this season. Went to Dallas for some games back in 2000 and couldn't believe how much support the team has in the city...
teams most people think of first when they think of that sport: college football: Notre Dame, Alabama, USC (So. Cal), Oklahoma, U of Miami, Michigan, Ohio State (folks can argue about omissions, but I'm just trying to help in a brief fashion) college basketball: UCLA, Kentucky pro baseball: NY Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cards, Cincinnati Reds pro hockey: Montreal Canadiens (spelling correct), Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Black Hawks pro football: Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Colts, San Francisco 49ers pro basketball: Boston Celtics, L. A. Lakers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knickerbockers (one of the all-time strange names in pro sports)
Selecting out the ones I'd consider distinctive in some way (from a sports-fan-but-not-an-expert perspective): St. Louis Cardinals (major league baseball) - known for great fans Buffalo Sabres (NHL hockey) Buffalo Bills (NFL football) - crazy-loyal fans, especially the Bills. Buffalo is one of the smallest NFL markets, and the Bills just had a terrible season, and they were STILL selling out their games. Toronto Blue Jays (major league baseball) - perhaps not 'important' per se, but expected to have a breakout season this year. Now the only Canadian MLB team. Chicago Bears (NFL football) - on the upswing, and well-known I think even among non-sports fans. Milwaukee Brewers (this can't really be a team name!) - yes, it really is! Milwaukee is a beer city. good luck! Michelle
all the ones on the list are unimportant. below is a comprehensive list SEATTLE SEAHAWKS GO SEAHAWKS !@@! and Jack... you are showing your age. you may want to look up the Colts to see where they actually play
I know, I meant to put a historical note in parentheses for her, but forgot. I bet Baltimore Colts "retro" stuff would sell, even if not approved by the NFL marketeers. At least I didn't include the Canton Bulldogs.
