For people in CARB states, the warranty for Hybrid system is 10 years /150000 miles. Do you still buy extended warranty for your PIP?

Nope, I find it to be a waste of money.

The conventional wisdom is that it's not worth it. That said, I bought it. I plan on keeping my car forever, and liked the 8-year peace of mind.

I didn't even though the salesman tried real hard.

Consumer Reports recommends not buying any warranty. Plus Toyotas run forever. :)

On my first Prius, a 2009, I had 99,8xx miles on it before some idiot decided to make a U turn in front of me from the side of the road. I didn't have any problem whatsoever with it. I'm expecting the same thing with the PiP. (Other than the U turn move. :D )

The salesman asked me if I wanted it, I said no and that was it.

I think it may worth it if you can get it for half the listed price. around 1K for 8year/125K miles 's peace of mind. You can pretty recover the cost with only one out of warranty repair.

Bought it for my '06, used it only once near the end of the six year coverage to replace the rear hatch struts. Didn't buy it for my '04 or for my PiP.

No. 19,000 miles and zero defects, apart from enTune being very poorly supported.

Got talked into it by over zealous finance guy. Then realized that most of the hybrid system is covered longer than the warranty I purchased so after 2 months I cancelled it and got all my money back.

Suffering from serious buyer's regret on this one - paid $2500 for 8 years. Anyone here ever cancel theirs for a refund?

Yeah, petery right above your post said they cancelled it after 2 months and got a full refund. I would most definitely try especially for $2500. Be firm and don't take no as an easy answer.

When I saw the "Toyota Care" in the title of this thread, I thought it was about the extended maintenance contract. But the OP is concerned about the extended warranty, which is an entirely different thing, with its own set of pros and cons. Isn't "Toyota Care" their term for the maintenance, not the warranty? I'm confused.

I didn't buy it, but I have to admit it was somewhat entertaining listening to the finance manager explain to me how the Toyota he was trying to sell me was going to break down all the time and threaten me with bankruptcy. He stopped when I asked him if he was trying to talk me out of buying the car with all his talk about major repairs I could be facing out of warranty.

Yippee! I canceled it and should be getting all of my $2500 back.

That said, I'm still open to the extended warranty - if the price is right. I want to shop around first. A reputable dealer online is offering it for $1700. Any other pricing info out there?

It seems the biggest concern for hybrid owners seems to be the traction battery. In CARB states, it's covered for 10yrs/150,000mi, so if that's the main concern, an extended warranty is a waste. To the Op, don't bother.
