I just listened to Episode 435: Why Buying A Car Is So Awful : Planet Money : NPR, thanks to a Facebook group. It was very insightful. Some (and I) were surprised that Tesla wasn't mentioned. They've been running afoul of dealer franchises w/their store model and been the target of lawsuits, as a result (Google for suit tesla dealer franchise, if curious).
We've got to listen to that one. We usually just listen to This American Life on long road trips. My wife hated her one and only new car buying experience that she wants to keep her 05 Corolla for as long as possible. Seems plausible since the only really old cars I see on the road are 20-30 year old Civics and Corollas.
