Been wanting a hybrid for over 12 years. Now that I'm retired and drive less than 12k a year thought it was time. I love the fuel economy and the whole idea of doing what I can to not support oil companies. I also don't wan't kids dying because oil is a national security issue.
I wanted to get back to basics. Safe transportation that is reliable. As an engineer the technology interested me. I traded a BMW 335 coupe. Bottom line is that this car is a lot of fun and a challenge in an entirely different way than a simply fast car.
You did what!!! the 335 is a piece engineering marvel! Beside the gas saving of Prius there is not one bit the Prius can come close to a 335 as in engineering tolerance, performance, handling and sex appeal! Wait! I am doing the same thing. Consolidating and going back to basic. LOL!
I love the style and the endless aftermarket possibilities even more. I went into the dealership to test drive the Scion FRS originally. I've seen many Prii before, but never really cared for it until my wife wanted to test drive one. Now we have 2 Prii, her's BP and mine is WG. She gets 55mpg, and I'm at 42 after 3 fillups and switching to 17" wheels. This is my first vehicle that has no draw backs IMO. High marks in styling, economics, and reliability on my book.
I had a 2010 sold it, after a few weeks of driving our Subaru, i was getting pissed at the motor still running at a stop light. I don't think i could ever go back to a call where the motor doesn't turn off at lights. #Sold 2010 after accident in Japan, actually made 2k over the price i paid for Prius. #love my blizzard white 2011, getting her detailed as we speak, gotta treat the lady right!
#1 Technology #2 reliability #3 fuel economy #4 political/initial tax credit of $3150 for my original 2005 prius #5 Environmental through technology
Around the 1st of March of 2011, we here in California were experiencing another round of gas price spikes and when I filled up my Solara and the cost was over $50, I started calling dealers that day and took delivery of a new Prius on the 10th of March. I decided I wasn't going to let the oil companies gouge me anymore.
In no particular order fuel economy ($35/mth. My colleagues are paying over $150/mth on regular V6 vehicles. Let's not mention the V8s) technology (hybrid and "traditional" automotive technologies) design (packaging - small car with mid size interior) flexibility and storage reliability low maintenance It's a video game on wheels Smooth power delivery
The Mazda 5 was totaled so went car shopping with three different cars in mind. I wanted a Fit, but I also liked the 5 and decided to look at a Prius in my price range. I wanted the high mpg of the Prius, but after a lot of comments on it from people that didn't know what they were talking about, I was afraid it would be a dog as far as acceleration goes. The Toyota dealer was the first on the list to look at since I really wanted the Fit, but after I drove the Prius, it had everything that suited me and fantastic mileage and had money left from the totaled Mazda 5. Glad they came out with the GenIII, I think it looks way better than the II. Now if I could find a way to unload the Lexus, I'd get another one for me.
I got a Prius because I started a new job where I drive 1/2 the state six days a week. I drove a New Beetle and although it gets pretty good gas mileage, it was an older car and I knew the miles would just eat it up and I'm not ready to part with the car yet. I knew I needed a good car (Toyotas are known for reliability - lots of miles with few mechanical problems) and I knew I needed a good MPG car. I chose the Prius because it's been around awhile. I love saving $20 a tank. What I wasn't expecting is how the Prius feels like a luxury car. It reminds me of a Buick I once had. That's just a bonus.
Just imagine with all the money I've wasted on the cars in my garage I could have bought 10 Prius... Do they even come with that many different colors?
