A chick in a stupid Civic was tailgating me on the freeway, I guess she is one of them Prius haters. So I showed her what a Prius can do. But now I am curious what's the electronic limiter is set at for top speed?
IIRC, it's around 115-118 mph. You know you could have "kept your foot in it" and found out for yourself!
Well... I was trying to keep it under 3 digits to stay out of jail. The Prius is too eye catchy for the cops. LOL!
Awesome, I'd try it but got popped 6 months ago in a little Florida town called Waldo! come to find out it is like the nations #1 speed trap. So embarrassing because I was in my RAV4. I wasn't speeding and then I was really speeding. Doing 65 missed the 55 change and 3 seconds later I'm in a 45! Man did I get crushed. I knew I'd been had too. Those A-holes
Al Gore's son got a DUI in a Gen2 Prius at just over 100 mph. I think its limiter is 106. The Gen3 limiter is a bit higher, I thought 112.
Memory from four years ago. It should be posted here somewhere. Edit: Here are some links, though only Gen2 so far: Max speed of Prius Al Gore's Kid Goes 100 MPH In A Prius Bruce Tinsley cartoon
Does the speedometer actually display more than two digits? Mine looks like there's not enough room for a third.
It is 112 mph. I have a document taken from a listing of all of the gear ratios through the planetary gear set and the Speed Reduction Unit between the planetary gears and MG2. The max car speed at MG2 max rpm is 112 mph. I do not have the document at work but will upload it when I get home tonight.
The actual number will depend on the tyre diameter. This will vary a bit between brands and wear factor. Hence "estimates" must be used. Speed is not an accurate indication of "max", RPM is.
Good point. I tried to edit my post but the edit mode was not working correctly, hence my duplicate post. I was going to add based on OEM tires. My calculations use my OEM tires and the revolutions per mile from my tire specs. Any other tire sizes would alter this calculation based on the tire's revolutions per mile spec.
