In-dash Nav Unit: Video input?

Hi all - I'm new to car modifications, so I apologize if this is an easy question...

Is there some kind of video input that can be used in the Prius C in-dash nav unit? I have seen threads on here where people hook up backup cameras, so there must be some auxiliary video input available. If so, what format is it? VGA? Composite? Proprietary connector that could hopefully be hacked?

My idea is to hook up a Raspberry Pi or some other car-sized computer to run XBMC and serve media.

Also, it would need to be able to switch back and forth between the standard dash unit output and the aux input, but again, the backup camera does that, so I would think it would be possible...

    Thanks!

You might be able to connect it up with a switch. Hit the switch and it would kill all signal from the Pi and give feed back to the car. This would work, just not sure about connecting the Pi to the car itself. If you can figure out some way to modify a connector, I imagine you could do it the same way that the backup camera connects just without the reverse input.

Awesome, that looks perfect! I even found it on Amazon: Beat-Sonic AVC39 Audio Video RCA Input Cable Harness : Amazon.com : Automotive

In your case, how do you switch between this input and the in-dash unit? If you disconnect the source does it just automatically switch when there is no signal?

Also, do you think it would it be possible to daisy-chain that together with a backup camera as well and have the backup camera take precedence if the vehicle is in reverse? I assume the backup camera uses the same input port on the OEM unit...

When this cable is connected to the head unit, a new source appears under the "Audio" button called "VTR". Video to Radio I guess. When you go to that source you video and audio can play. It uses a separate input from the backup camera. I installed that as well. :) the backup cam does take priority as soon as the vehicle is put into reverse.

Oh, very nice, that's even better. Sounds like I will be picking one of these up :) Thanks very much for the info, glad someone else has done the same thing as I was planning!

I wonder if you can use this same plug for the reverse camera?

I wired it in manually using the instructions on the Rear View Cam thread on the forum.

Thanks. Did you use the reverse light for your 12v source? I'm hearing some members are having issues after a few months. How long have yours been working?

Yes, using a diode. Still working great! Camera resolution is not so great. Wish I picked a better camera! But it is still working properly.

Beat sonic makes a harness for a plug n play for back up camera. I have that one too! I have that paired with their new reverse cam.

Does anybody now if the Beat Sonic cable fits an European (Dutch) Prius Wagon (Prius V in the States) with an "Toyota Touch" radio? I want to hookup an external video device to the radio.

The radio is an Panasonic and here is an number 59014 on the radio it self.

Most likely will, but you might have better luck asking in the Prius V forum.

Call Beat Sonic USA. I think it should work but call the company and let them know that Ernest told to you call them to verify if it will work. Here is their number: 714-994-1085, sorry no 1-800 number.

Can someone post a photo where in the back of the head unit the Beat-Sonic AVC39 is connected?

Also can be used on standard touch head units?
