Lease residuals finally determined!

    Only 1 in ten people would lease this anyway in CA.
    It's kind of a non issue.
    Of 15,000 units in the entire USA for 2012, I doubt more than 500 do a lease.
    Those who want it for HOV lanes in CA drive too many miles to lease anyway.

    By the way tier 1+ MF is what you are using for calculation. I am more cautious, even though I am willing to bet that over 90% of my PHEV buyers are tier 1+ anyway.

    Looks like if you are leasing, the Federal Tax Credit ($2,500 in the case of the PiP) goes to the owner of the vehicle (the lessor), not the person who leases the car (the leasee). At least that appears to be the case for the Volt (http://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy/the-ins-and-outs-of-electric-vehicle-tax-credits.html):

    For those in California, the Clean Vehicle Rebate ($1,500) appears to be eligible even to the leasee as long as your lease is for at least 36 months (http://energycenter.org/index.php/i...cle-rebate-project/phev-toyota-requirements):

    That is correct. The tax credit goes to the leasing company. Both Leaf & Volt included the tax credit as a down payment that made the leases acceptable ($350 last year). Volt has some weird add back if anyone wants to keep the cars after 3 years. Leaf residual is clean with no weird calculations.

    I'm glad I leased my Leaf - I can look forward to buying another EV in 2 years.

    Hello!

    This is first time on a site like this. Hoping someone can assess the following which I am considering.

    Have a 2010 Prius 3 coming off a lease...just basic model with added leather seats. It appears Toyota is offering few if any incentives on 2013 models at this time. 3 yr lease in Minneapolis for similar model for 2013 is about $450/mo.
    While discussing this at dealer, I noticed they had 2013 Prius V (certified w/12 mo comp warranty)w/28,300 miles and navigation for sale at $23,400.

    Checking at KBB (Excellent w/navigation: $26,768) and Edmunds ($25,042), Dealer pricing is well below either.

    Not knowing what to expect, I asked if they would consider a 2-3 yr lease (12,000 mi) and was given the following figures:
    3 yr Monthly Payment $365.00 Residual Value $12,725 Buyout after Lease
    2 yr Monthly Payment $442.00 Residual Value $14,975 Buyout after Lease

    KBB says that average Toyota value after 5 yrs is about 35%, which if accurate places a value (Based on approx
    $30,000 MSRP) of around $10,000, which is well below my dealer's projection.

    I got luck in 2010 which, as you may recall, Toyota had major class action lawsuits going and my lease price at that time dropped $120/mo to $320/mo which has been great.
    In conclusion, this new proposal allows me to maintain a similar price for a fully loaded Certified Prius V.
    As I said previously, a 2013 base model is in the $450/mo range.
    Would it make any sense to consider purchasing the 2010 vs leasing? I assume my monthly payments would noticeable increase.

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have no idea if this makes any sense.

    Sorry...As I said I have never done this before and should have been more careful in checking the full date instead of just the month, incorrectly assuming it was 2013.

    Would you still consider offering some informed advice?

    Does that not suggest that the traction battery depreciation approaches ~ 75% ?
