I took the plunge and ordered the alpine z928hd today, was leaning toward Kenwood but last minute couldn't resist the bigger screen. Also got a Mac mini for 150 dollars and figured I would connect it through the glove box. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet but I figure it would be a fun customization.
Very nice, just reviewed some you tube vids, who is doing install? Would love to see pics of final install.

I just installed an Alpine z928HD a few days ago. It is a difficult install, but I really like the system.
Great, did you compare it to any? I heard the navigation in the kenwood was unmatched but I really liked that bigger screen on the alpine, plus I have always liked alpines quality/sound
If I could do it again, I would have gone with a kenwood or jvc navigation. The map Interface on the alpine was dumbed down compared to older ones
If you haven't done so already, check out mp3car.com. The forums are very helpful in CarPC installs (putting a computer in a car).
How to you plan to get composite video out of the Mac Mini to pipe into the Alpine? Also, the Kenwood nav is Garmin which is, IMHO, the best and most user friendly on the market. The Alpine nav interface stinks. The pre-amp section on the Alpine is garbage as well - it barely outputs 2.5V before it clips.
