So far I really like my PIP, except my dash has what looks like white marks on it. It seems like the slightest touch will create a mark. And I mean SLIGHT. As a test, I very lightly touched the dash and it did indeed leave a mark. I'm curious if others are seeing the same thing. I'm wondering if the oil in my skin has anything to do with this ? I have a couple of detailing products that I can try but thought I'd ask before going down that road. I'm having a hard time thinking the material that the dash is made out of is that delicate.
I just use windex wipes, follow up with a disposable duster to get rid of any lint. I assume the PiP has the same textured plastic as the gen 3, and yes it is a pain! P.S. it's actually your skin, the sharp edges of the textured plastic is scraping off some skin cells leaving a white residue!
Yep it's just dead skin cells or skin residue. I first noticed them after a week with our PIP - it looks like when kids kick the panels of your car with their shoes on. But now after over a month with the car, I'm positive it's normal. It's unsightly until you wipe it down, but it sure beats the dash material of the Gen II which was even harder to keep clean and even wipes would stain that.
I used furniture polish on my 05, it does a nice job, on the upper, rougher surface just use water. NO detergent, wax, period. And never spray insecticide inside vehicle, it screws up the dash for ever. :cheer2::cheer2:
these scuffs seem more pronounced when viewed through polarized sunglasses. but yea, same problem here. i put my scangauge up there and it left some scratches...
Well at least I'm not the only one. Thanks for the feedback. I have some Adam's products that I like so I'll give them a try. Guess the best thing is to leave the dash alone as much as possible. Glad that I mounted my Scanguage on my mirror.
My car had scuff marks on the dash when I picked it up at the dealer. I was a little worried when I first noticed them, but they disappeared after using a water dampened microfiber cloth. I've noticed a few more since then, but so far they've all easily wiped away with a damp cloth.
I had the marks just as you described, and wiped the dash with a clean towel. Mine was all the way across the dash. I don't know how I would have deposited so much skin there. Maybe it was from the guy who installed my Homelink mirror? I've noticed that what appear to be scuff marks on the lower door panels also come off using a towel. Seems that sometimes you have to wipe in both directions to get stuff caught in the fake grain of the material.
Keep telling my son to stop putting his dirty shoes/feet on my car - but now realize that it's going to happen - my main complaint is the glare on screen - help - have to take off glasses then use my hand to shadow it - does anyone have suggestion?
I think in the Priuschat store they have a hood for the screen - I assume you mean the nav screen? Or you can tint your windows like I did it cuts down the glare considerably.
Lexol's Vinylex. Don't waste your time with anything else. Wait till you see my dash. All the top detailers use it.
Is it me or does the texture of the dash resemble a Chewbacca/Wookie fur design in plastic? Just sayin!
i have never understood why this "grain" was added, especially given what a pain in the nice person it makes cleaning. anyone still remember the smooth dash of the early Gen II Priuses?
