Hello Everyone, I bought 2012 Prius Two and picked up the car before storm Nemo hits New York area. I owned Hyundai Accent before. Obviously, those cars are quite different, and I think I need a time to get used to brake and axel pedals. Their responses were more sensitive than my old car. After reading forum about extended warranty, I decided not to do it. I plan to own Prius at least until 100,000 miles. Hopefully the car won't have any serious problem until then. I commute from NYC to Long Island through Northern State Parkway. The traffic is not bad mostly, but I wonder which road is better to get more MPG; Long Island Expressway or Northern State Parkway. If there's anyone commute from NYC to Long Island, please give me an advice. Thanks.
welcome! congratulations on your new car, i'm sure you will love it as you adjust to the different ride and features. all the best!
.... yeah, my least favorite road! OP- you're just going to have to try both NS and LIE- it's the only way to know. If I take the LIE home- in non-freezing weather I can get mid 80's MPG and I get home in 35min. If I take rt 25 home I get 100-110+mpg but it takes me 50min or so to get home. FWIW- I generally take the LIE just because it's quicker and for my 28im commute there's not much difference in fuel consumed between 88mpg versus 101mpg. Tip- inflate your tires to 40psi front and 38psi rear, that will instantly boost your MPG.
