I set the Timer Friday night to charge Saturday morning. I drove the car Sunday morning on my full 10 battery miles charge. When I returned after a 3 mile EV drive, I plugged it in without setting the Timer. When I started the PIP 2 hours later, it was still at 7 battery miles, instead of the 10 earlier. So it must not have charged. I always use the Start Timer, not the Stop Timer. I drove and used up the battery. When I returned, I plugged it in again without setting the Timer. But the charge port led stayed on for the initial 10 seconds and went off. I checked the Dash and the Timer indicator was flashing. WHY? I started the PIP, put it into Drive, Reverse, Drive, then Stopped the PIP. However, the Timer indicator was STILL flashing. WHY? So I set the Start Charge Timer for 5 minute from what it was and at that time it started charging, like it should. How do you Reset the Charge Timer if the Dash Timer indicator is flashing?
I have used the timer once and it worked great. From what I understand you have to set the timer each time you want to use it. If you don't turn it on it should default back to plug in and charge.
You don't have to "set" the timer each time. You just have to push the button and it uses whatever you have programmed into it. One feature I like is that I can put a partial charge into the bat...then an hour or so later, while the cord is still plugged in and charging, I can just reach in through the open window and hit the button. It'll stop the charge immediately and restart it at it's programmed time to finish off the charge. I do this so I can follow Toyota's suggestion of not having a full battery any longer than necessary. The first step partial charge allows me some 'lectric if I need to make a quick trip to the store. ukr2 .... from bad memory, the flashing means you haven't finished the programming. Time to get out your manual again.
Yep, that's what I thought too. I use the Start Timer 3 times a day Mon-Fri. After driving it Sunday morning and then Sunday noon, for some reason the timer is stuck on. After it finishes this Timed charge, we'll see what happens when I drive later and charge when I get back.
When the PIP is off, if you have the Charge Timer set, the Dash Timer indicator will start Flashing. See page 88.
OK, the PIP charged with the Timer. I drove and used up the Battery again. Back home I turned off the PIP and the Dash Timer indicator was not flashing. Good. I then set the Start Timer for the Morning charge and the Dash Timer started flashing. Not sure why it messed up earlier.
OK, I ask again - How do you Reset the Charge Timer? I set the Start time to 5am. But then remembered that I had an errand in 2 hours and wanted to start charging Now. However, after restarting the PIP, putting it into Drive, moving a few feet forward and back and then putting it into Park, then stopping the PIP, the Charge Timer was still flashing on the display. I had to change the Start time to 5 minutes from now. Then it started in 5 minutes ok. SO. How do you Reset (turn off) the Charge Timer so it starts charging now?
It's just a toggle; press the timer button once and it will turn the timer off. I just verified this operation......My car is currently charging; amber light at the charge port ON. I went to the timer and programmed it to start charging at 5:30am. Green timer light on dash started flashing. I checked the amber light at the charge port and it was OFF. I then went back into the car and pressed the timer button once. The green timer light stopped flashing, and the charge port amber light was ON again. I hope this helps..........
34Hupp, pressing the timer button should just display the Start Time, allowing you to change it. If you then press and hold the timer button, you set the Timer.
After the timer is set, (green timer light flashing) you just need to press the timer button once to toggle the timer OFF.
So if I only press the timer button once and NOT change the time or press the timer button again, it Turns the Charge Timer off? OK, I'll try it.
When you press the timer button, it will display your last setting. If you don't need to make changes and do nothing, the display times out (in about 10 seconds) the timer is set ON. The timer dash light will be flashing. To turn the timer OFF, just press the timer button and the dash light will stop flashing. It went out to my car that is currently charging without the timer, amber light ON at charge port. I went into car and pressed the timer button once. The timer display came on showing my setting of START at 5:30am. I made no changes and just waited for about 10 seconds when the display turned off, and timer light started flashing. The amber light at the charge port is off. Charger is wating until 5:30 to turn on. I then went back into car and pressed the timer button. The timer display DID NOT come ON and the green timer light went OFF. The amber light at the charge port came on again becuse the timer has been turned OFF and the car was charging. If you press the timer button and the timer display screen comes on, you have set the timer ON (to the previous used setting). If you press the timer button and the timer display screen does not come on, then the timer was already set ON and you just turned it OFF.
The charge timer sucks. I just use a manual mechanical (block heater) timer. It would be better if you could program the charging using the nav screen as an input.
Thanks 13Plug. Reading is Fundamental. I missed page 89 of the Manual. Canceling the charging timer function If the charging timer switch is pressed while the charging timer indicator is illuminated or flashing, the charging timer function will be canceled. Charging will commence immediately if the charging cable is connected to the vehicle. The charging timer indicator will turn off if the charging timer function is canceled.
