Do you mean the 12 volt lead acid battery?

Replacing the traction (HV) battery at 100k miles would be nuts.

Hi i have a 2008 prius touring whit 159,660 miles is one of the the best cars i have ever had due to the gas savings.

    REPAIRS
    110,000 a/c system , water pump , belt , coolant
    115,000 valve assembly and camshaft
    133,000 new smart key
134,000 replaced inverter water pump ,belt and coolant
158,000 replaced 12v auxiliary battery whit optima yellow top prius battery
    159,000 recall

I'm thinking of doing the spark plugs because the it still has the original one would like to know which one you guys think are better NKG laser iridium spark plugs or pulstar iridium spark plugs ?

Also what do u think about k&n air filters?

I'm hoping to be in the 200,000 miles group in four months i hope my HYBRID battery will last until then because i have read a lot don't survive past 162,000

What happened to your smart key at 133k?

Also, where did you read the battery doesn't survive past 162k? Certainly not on here. MANY people go way past that in mileage on their original traction battery.

for some reason the car deleted the key programing and it just didnt work and had to take it to the dealer and said the key was bad and had to buy a new one.
and i had check the smart key battery and it was in good condition and still working

i heard about the hybrid battery problem from the dealer they even gave me a quote of $4,600 dlls to replace the battery.

Once you spend enough time on PC you will learn to never trust stealerships. Their only goal is to make money, they don't care about the customer, at least the vast majority of them.

belive it or not yesterday after my recall we whent over my car service history at the dealer and found out that when i had replaced the ac and water pump and belt at 110,000 then 134,000 wich was about 10 months later the invert pump and belt where replaced . What pissed me off was that the belt had a 1 year warranty and they made me pay for it again . To be honest i didnt know their was warranty in the belt so when the dealer told me that it should have been covered under warranty and i asked for my reinbersment they said no beacuase they said i should have told them that i had replace the belt . im still fighting whit the dealers service manager to get my money back . that is why i join PC becuase i can't trust the dealer anymore

This is why I'm so in favor of Tesla's sales model. Just eliminate the scum.

Better go to another dealer, it will be worth the trip.
HV traction batteries don't go bad very often, when they do, the car will let you know with nasty triangles, bells and whistles and may even refuse to restart.

You can usually find one in a junkyard for about 400 bucks... Another 4-500 to put it in.
New ones are about 3200.00 or so, but also have a 1600.00 core charge you get back so final cost is not bad....

No core charge is given if buying a used junkyard battery.

The best way to make a stealership honest is to first educate yourself here on Prius Chat about your issue "before" you go to the dealer... Talk directly with the Prius mechanic, be courteous, and when they realize your no dummy it makes them accountable and they treat you entirely different.

My 2005 rolled past 100,000 last night.

I bought the car at 7x,000 miles I think so now I get to pull the plugs and see if the were replaced before I bought the car or if I have 100,000 miles on the factory spark plugs.

I've been away from the group for a few years. I've got a 2008 that just turned 4. It's got 126,000 miles. No major repairs so far - other than a brake actuator within the first year or so (was making barking noises). The car runs well. My only complaints at this point are: the brake actuator has started making barking sounds again. Not covered under extended warranty that ran out at 100K. The other complaint is that the gas tank used to take a maximum of 8 gallons, even when new. Now, in the winter, I can rarely get more than 6 or so gallons in.

I just this month finished paying for it - so I'm hoping to run it a few years more.

I'm right at the 180K mark with my 2007 Prius. (I've driven it through all 48 continental US states.) So far (knocking on wood as we speak...) my only real repairs, aside from routine stuff were:

    Left front wheel bearing
    Tire sensor

The battery apparently died in one of the tire sensors, and of course the dealership couldn't just replace the battery; they had to replace the whole sensor to the tune of $200-ish. When the sensor died, it caused the low tire pressure light to stay on all the time. Thankfully the wheel bearing turned out to be around $200, too. There was some sort of part in there that could have fused together, which would have made it a much more expensive repair.

I have a 2008 Prius, (97.5k) at the dealership today getting the recalls done. They have recommend at my next oil change, 100k, to do the engine flush, transmission fluid change and $90 each spark plugs for a total of $500 to $600 bucks. I currently average 48 mgp, (its winter) and in the summer around 50 mgp. I plan on keeping my Prius, any suggestions as to go for or not go for all this 100k service?

The owner's maintenance and warranty booklet shows the recommended service for 100K miles. The service should be done but it would be good if you can locate a less expensive place to perform the service.

The iridium spark plugs should be replaced at 120K miles, no need to replace at 100K miles if you do not notice any driveability issues.

Thanks for the feed back. I have always stuck with the Prius servicing dealer, as I wasn't sure other garages could do the speciality work on this car. I guess I could look around to see who is doing service other than the local dealer.

I misspoke on the engine flush, the dealer wants to to an Engine Oil Flush. I've had the oil changed every 5k, and cannot believe this is something I'd need to do with today's oils. It would be hard to believe there is lots of sludge built up changing it every 5k. I'm surprised they did not want to suggest the engine antifreeze flush, as I think that would be a better investment. Looking for comments.

Other than the "Engine Flush" (which can't be done, do a coolant drain/refill in BOTH coolant loops), each of these is a good idea at 100k miles. I would also add replacing the PCV valve, but your dealer's prices seem a bit high.

Coming on 102k on my 05 but got it with 80 (in '10).. a few years ago-- before that had an 01 got it with a little over 105k? (in 2/06) and took it until the traction bat had to be replaced around 130 k -- and sold about 5k later \
They are great cars .. a bit pissed there is no EV button in NA but looking to put one on -- overall, they work great for a long time as long as the battery has a good charge (and it's too bad there isnt' a plug in charger to top off the stock battery (like the real gen1 had in Japan) -- and an offer for a larger capacity NiMh battery (or lithium) should be a standard package choice just like you can get a solar package, a radio package and the keyless entry , etc. --
