Unless I am missing something obvious, this is a really good deal on a 12/3 extension cord. Home Depot is selling 75ft 12/3 extension cord + 2' tri-tap 12/2 for $19. I paid $22 for my 50' 12/3 on Amazon just 2 months ago (which was a really good deal as well). Can anyone find anything wrong with this product? I'm ready to go buy a few.
i'm not sure if there is any way to tell the true quality of an extension cord from outward appearance. it usually becomes known after many seasons of hard use.
depending on the load you will use on that 75' 12/3, 12/3 may not be enough to transfer the 16 Amp required on a 20Amp. electrical circuit for the PiP EVSE. Reading over the shortcut you included, it's stated " Light duty" merchandise. For a temporary use of a hedge trimmer or electric leaf blower may be sufficient enough.
Agreed. I'd suspect folks needing an extension cord will be using it outside, in the sun, and in the summer.
The light duty refers to the jacket, not the copper. Most people use the Level 1 charger on a 15A circuit. I am thinking of this for charging @ work once I get access to an outlet, which I am sure will be 15A, but if this is not a good idea with this cord, then I'll get a better one.
The story is, if you will be connected to a 15Amps wall outlet, after a 75' extension cord you will NOT have access to 120V-15Amps at the other end.
I just picked 2 of them up, looks like this was a price mistake, as most of the online orders have been cancelled. I plan on putting one in the car, in case I can get access to an outlet @ work once the snow disappears, the other one I will use for my electric snow blower (using a 50' 14/3 now) and my garden tiller.
You will still get 15 amps at the end of the cord, but not 110volts. Most ratings are based on a 3% drop. Also, if the system runs for more than two hours, most codes de-rate all of the components by 20%.
