The 2001 Prius was classified as ULEV (ultra low emission vehicle) by CARB so it would not have the 15 year emission warranty. The 15 year emission warranty is required for cars to meet the PZEV classification. The 2nd gen (2004 - 2009) and newer Prius are classified AT-PZEV so they do have the 15 year emission warranty in CARB states.

It does not, since the Classic Prius was not certified as AT-PZEV.

    Two things:

Are you sure you are talking to Toyota and not some Toyota Dealership? The dealer is a separate company, call Toyota's regional Office.

Was the car purchased in, and continuously registered in California? If not then 8 years and 80,000 miles is correct.

No, as it has a Smog Score of 8 which is below the minimum to qualify. Only those with Smog Scores of 9 & above qualifies. Drive Clean – Benefits and Incentives : Vehicles that have a Smog Rating of 9 (also known as “PZEV” or “AT PZEV”) in California come with a 15 year/150,000 mile warranty on the emissions system.

BTW, there is NO difference physically or functionally between the "CARB-certified" catalytic converters and the 49-state ones. The only differences are: the "CARB" label, and the high mark-up on the price to cover the kickbacks to CARB.

If your car is a 2007 Prius and not salvage your catalytic converter is under warranty for 15 years or 150,000 miles as long as it is causing your check engine light to come on. If your dealer is giving you a hard time, the California Air Resources Board would love to help. I will PM you the contact info of someone who can help.

Toyota Dealer call me at 9:00 this morning, and tell me it's cover under warranty, and the technician is replacing it on my Prius, but how can I identify that's been replaced?

Get under the car and look at the catalytic converter so you know what it looks like. Then after the work has been done, get under the car again and admire the shiny new part.

Also, I presume that the reason why you think the catalytic converter needs replacing is because the check engine light is on. After the work is done, the light should remain off.

Are there any solutions for a CC for a Prius that is WAY over the mileage warranty? I have 255K on my 2007 (commute 40 miles each way to work) and the code just came up.

The solution is to buy another CC and replace the worn out one at 255k miles

I assume we are talking California here. I presume you can procrastinate until you need an inspection. I don't know if its possible for the catalyst to improve activity if there was some kind of temporary poison (as we say in science labs).

Well, yes....obviously it needs to be replaced. The "solution" I'm looking for is to pay significantly less than the $1800 or whatever the dealer wants to charge.
