Allow me to recall the brief conversation between two guys at work about Teslas and hybrids. One guy was probably an electrician, the other a blue collar supervisor. Why mention it? It's interesting to hear what people believe and tell each other 'out there'.

    It went like this -

"Have you seen one of those, um, Tesla cars, Type S or whatever it is? Man, they look really cool, but dang they're like $100,000. I heard they're electric and the batteries don't last all that long and when they go out, they cost as much as the car to replace. There's like 3 versions. And they're going to make an SUV electric car and that's going to cost $100,000 too! And they had that little Roadster car also for $100,000.

other guy - "man, for $100,000, that thing better come with a sink, kitchen and toilet too! And those hybrids, those are bull#^&% too. They cost twice as much as a regular car and they've got 2 engines you have to worry about, a gas and electric".

First guy "I'll wait til they build an electric truck, then I'll be interested"

Well, shame on me for not going to bat on this one.

Just thought I'd plant this thread here because it involves electrified cars and plugins

I think the thing I hear the most at work is something about battery replacement cost.. "you have to replace the battery every 5 years and it costs thousands of dollars, right?"..

I usually just mention the 10 year 150k mile warranty and that ends that.. then I'll finish off with something like "yeah, I havent been to a gas station in 4 months.." and watch as their jaws drop to the floor.

There's still people running around telling each other that the Prius battery cost $10,000 to replace.

Nothing worse than people running their mouths about stuff they have little to no knowledge of, or even half truths. I love the line, " we can differ on opinions, but you can't dispute facts". I'm a tech interested person, I watch a lot news, read the USA Today, M-F (you thought I'd say daily). I can hold my own or add to a lot of conversations. On subjects I'm not versed in, I'm all ears, but quiet as a mouse. I have a co-worker who talks a lot of junk. My favorite response is, just because you say it, doesn't mean it's true.

My response to the idiocy of some people concerning EV's is: "The horse is here to stay but the automobile is only a novelty—a fad"
