Hey Darrell, this is all good info. Thanks for sharing the info on batteries and EV. My, it's no wonder GM is in such financial hot water...and they could've been the good guys! My experience with the EV Ford pickup was not so good. After a year, the battery wouldn't hold a charge and the vehicle went back to Ford. The RAV EV, on the other hand, was a super car.
I will let you know. I gotta read it a couple more times [Broken External Image]:http://www.dealagogo.com/images/smilies/eusa_think.gif
Thanks for listening to my rambles. Yeah, the Rangers had some teething problems. Lots of folks seemed to have problems early on, and then once fixed, they seem to be working pretty well. Knock on wood. As I've said before, the Ranger is the least refined of any of the (full-featured) EVs I've driven. Were you driving fleet cars, I assume? Bummer if you missed out on the EV1. Man, I miss that car. I don't think there's ever before been a time when a car company would NOT allow a driver to extend a lease or buy the car at the end of the lease. My car had less than 30k miles, was in PERFECT condition... and it is now flat. [Broken External Image]:http://www.darelldd.com/ev/images/ev1/ev1_grave/ev1_crush5.jpg
Interesting I just read this on a completed Ford Ranger ebay auction: Free parking @ LAX and most major airports.
I live 15 miles from Sacramento, and all city parking garages are free for EVs, and most of them have chargers. The costco's around here also have reserved parking and charging for EVs... as does the airport and several medical facilities and shopping malls. In fact, where I live, I have 45 public chargers within a 15 mile radius.
Darell, did you catch this truck for sale on eBay? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-Electric...1QQcmdZViewItem
Wow that's interesting and could save you some money if you travel alot by plane. I think I paid $10 a day to park at my local airport and I my car was there for several days. Your calling them EVs now. I though your vehicles were BEVs?? <sigh> Any discounts for the Prius?
I prefer the vehicle next to your Hummer! I suppose you get ALOT of questions when people read Electric on the side of your Rav huh? (Maybe being in CA it's more common then places like WI LOL)
All BEVS are EVs! The B is just for battery. You'll find that I use th acronyms interchangeably unless I'm trying to make a specific point about BATTERY electric vehicles. All my EVs are BEVs. Uh.... what? Discounts for EV owners? Discounts in Sacramento? You lost me. I'm signed up for a discount right now through Costco if that helps.
Thanks Begreen. Nope, didn't see that one. Not really keeping track of the S-10's. The neat thing about those though, is that they're the same running gear as the EV1...just with a truck on top.
Wow Darrell, I just got done watching the rest of the video from the PlugIn campaign. (It was longer than I though it would be) It's seems like they have alot of powerful people joining in on the campaign. It was great to hear many of those leaders are currently driving hybrids. I would think with as many people that involved in it they should be able to get something going. The ONLY thing I was disapointed in is that someone asked the question about the cost of the PlugIn and the questioned didn't get answered. My only other concern is I already have a Prius. If an automaker decides to manufacturer a PlugIn car I hope they will also offer to add the PlugIn option to our already existing cars. I wouldn't want them to make them and everyone go crazy for them and not be able to add it to my car. I would worry if we couldn't add it to our existing Priuses and they do it to the new Priuses than our resell value of our cars might be greatly affected. I was also pleased to see how strong they all seemed about this. I'm SURE Dr. Frank is thrilled about this since he has worked on this for years! I hope they can get President Bush to look at this and help them. This could be a major thing huh? Very exciting. That video was VERY informative! (I wish I could have been there!)
Why are the vehicles being crushed? Were they experimental? Your article says they are production models. Just wondering. I'm probably missing part of the story. I would love to have a full ev car for work. I only travel 8 miles each way and it would fit me perfectly.
darelidd, thanks very much for posting. How does it feel to be an instant celebrity ? If I may ask-- what limitation of the EV truck is pushing it out your door ?
Yeah... I'd better start enjoying it. This might be my 15 minutes, eh? Two limits on the truck are pushing it out the door: 1. It is our third vehicle, and is limiting our garage space! 2. It has lots of cash sitting in it, so it is limiting my Prius purchase power. Seriously, I'm not "getting rid of it." I'm selling it (along with my Honda Civic) so I can get my garage back, and be able to afford the Prius. The Ranger and the Civic will basically become the Prius when this is all over. I hardly drive ONE car, much less the two that are now at my disposal. Mostly I ride my bike (that's my dirty little secret - I hardly *drive* any miles during the week! - though I do put some E-miles on during the weekends) My wife and I both tend to drive the Rav4EV for everything since it has such great range, and room for the whole family. It is the commuter on the week days, and the family vehicle in the evenings and weekends.
