I am actually writing this while on an airplane, en route to the east coast to pick up my 2013 prius plug in.

I live in Utah but purchased it from a Toyota dealer in Maryland in December because the dealer was offering huge discounts, plus Toyota was offering a $4,000 finance rebate, plus 0.00% financing for up to 60 months.

I was originally getting a brand new 2012, but that car got damaged with Superstorm
Sandy while still with Toyota. So, Toyota gave the dealer a 2013 with the same $4000 rebate (which isn't offered with 2013's) and the dealer gave the same discount off the MSRP. Sweet.

I was going to have the car shipped to me, but couldn't get a car carrier to transport it for a reasonable amount. So I'm using frequent flyer points and Marriott points and will take a leisurely drive across the country.

We also just got a 2012 Prius v model 5 for my wife. She had been driving a 2006 prius. I can't pry the Prius v away from her as she loves it.

Electricity where we live is 7 cents per kwh, so that will also be great.

Our other car is a 2008 Honda Civic GX dedicated natural gas. We pay $1.49 per gallon for natural gas in Utah because its state regulated.

I guess we have become a super green family.

    Enjoy the drive back.

How do you like the Civic GX. I have a 2008 GX and have considered getting a 2012 model to replace my old one. How does the prius compare to the GX?

Have fun. You'll enjoy the discovery process.

It will start with observation of HV driving. Efficiency is great even without plugging in. I routinely see 50 MPG driving that way.

When you get home, the EV observations will start. Timing is really good too. You'll catch winter as it begins to fade. With Spring comes more electric driving. Getting mine in March last year, I was excited to watch electric-only range steadily increase.

Give us an update when you can. Many like to live vicariously through reading experiences of owners.
