At a bit less than half empty, it took 5.7 gallons to fill completely. How many gallons can the tank hold?

Some added information you might find interesting: When the last pip on your fuel gauge starts blinking, there is still a little over one gallon in the tank. I think the manual states 1.2 . It is also known that the manufacturing processes allow for some slight differences in tank volume from car to car of the same model. It is also possible to fill beyond what the tank nominally holds by filling up to the brim of the filler tube. (This is not recommended.)
There is a difference between 'goes empty' and 'I put gas in when the last pip flashes and it has taken between 7.5 and 8.7 gallons,' or whatever else you base the 'goes empty' on. Empty means there is no more fuel in the tank. Just sayin'.
tank holds 9.5 gallons they say. fuel gauge flashes empty at 1.5 gallons left in tank. I have put 9.6 gallons in the tank before so I assume it hold more than 9.5 gallons in reality, not sure how much more.
Owners manual states 9.5. Production variances can change a bit, but not a lot. If you're putting in more than 9.5, it's going into the lines, the filler neck, or the carbon canister.
