Seems like there has been a lot of discussion on dead and dying cars lately. I've had my NWH11 for six months and 16,000 km, and it is working perfectly. So I'm taking it on a 5,000 km road trip. There is still lots of life in many of these cars! Will let you know fuel economy with the boat on the roof.
It explains why we give so much time helping others understand and fix theirs ... Good Prius Friends. Bob Wilson
Bob, I agree, im glad I found this site. I hate when I look back and see people scrap their gen 1s that only have 130k , 160k or so just from a problem that can be easily fixed. saddens me to see it. or when im on ebay and see one being parted out and I dont see a dent on it and ask the seller why it was scrapped with only 120k and I get told it was scrapped for a bad traction battery, what a sin. $1500 could of fixed it. instead they threw it in the can, collected their 300 bucks and went. Or took on a 300 car payment. enjoy spending 3600 a year on payments, that could of been 2 traction batteries or a traction battery and an MG2. Yeah the newer ones really nice are but once you figure in payments, higher insurance, for me it dont pay off. but thats me, everybody has a different situation, i just hate seeing these cars get scrapped for an easy fix.
Car topping the boat was an interesting experience. I travelled about 300 miles as pictured, and my mileage was 34 mpg driving at 65 mph. I really didn't want to drive much faster than that with that configuration. I think that a very light trailer (< 300 pounds all up) would be a better arrangement, with much less windage, and will probably pursue that.
