of course, but if it's their error, then the onus is on them to spend the extra expense to send you the corrected paperwork. if they aren't willing to do that, then they don't deserve your business, plain and simple.

guys this is covered in the FAQ. you have to go to the DMV yourself and you will get the plates right there on the spot. make sure to make an appointment for registration and come there with the prius and the sales contract.

I would if I could afford it. The $6.5 K discount in NJ brought the total to a price point I was happy with. The deal ends on the 4th (as of today, but that may change) so there was no time to send a new contract and send it back. I lost my faith that I would get out of the deal without a scratch and have no confidence after the inaccurate numbers throughout the contract.

I am sure there are other dealers who are more careful and understand the out of state, tax, title, and reg process. I hope you guys get your car's registered smoothly with the CA DMV.

For what it's worth, I pulled the trigger late on Monday, had paperwork on Wednesday, and a done deal late yesterday. We had some spillover into today as I waited for them to process and provide a copy of my refund check, and they got a couple of more misc. forms signed by me. In hindsight I wish I had marked up their paperwork even more and not had to fret about whether the refund would be forthcoming.

Not sure why out of state deals should be a problem, since most dealers I talked to had 3rd party companies that handled the out of state paperwork, etc. for them. One dealer even had a separately stated fee for this. FYI, Texas normally allows swapping of plates from old to new vehicle, which would have saved us from shipping plates back and forth. However, the 3rd party company said the state wouldn't let us do that since they were acting as intermediary. Not sure if true, but no biggie.

Koon's Toyota in Maryland was extremely knowledgeable and sophisticated about out of state deals. Too bad MD only has a $3,500 rebate at the moment.

I'm working on a deal from NY and was wondering if taxes are charged after or before deducting the 6.5k from Toyota. I'm being offered 38.9k for the advanced package and being charged with taxes on that price then the 6.5k TFS is being deducted...this doesn't seem right because the 6.5k is not a rebate but an incentive from Toyota to lower the price of the car.

Can those of you working on the east coast deal let me know how you are being taxed (ie is the tax charged pre or post deduction for 6.5k TFS).

Also, does 38.9k price seem fair or is it too high for the east coast pricing?

    Thanks in advance

Tax is charged on the price before the rebate. I know it doesn't seem right. I think it is basically applied towards the down payment and not treated as a price discount which is why.

$38.9 is an ok, not great, price that you should be able to find multiple dealers would do based on my shopping experience.

i'm confused, why did you have to ship plates anywhere at all? when i bought my car in Oregon, though it wasn't shipped, we put temporary OR plates on the car at the dealer, and then I went to the DMV and got handed brand new CA plates back home. what's there to ship back and forth?

Did you finance the car through TFS?

With financing it has to be licensed before it leaves the lot. The plates will go to the dealer then forwarded to me if the car has already left the lot.

FYI My shipping quotes have been very high. 1 $800 quote from a big shipper with negative reviews - mostly for being slow or late, which is why they can quote low. The ones from reputable shippers have been in the 900 to 1000 range. I was told there's a lot of north to south shipping this time of year. She who must be obeyed refuses to let me fly and drive. Since she said yes to the car, I think I'm going to give her this one!

Since stumbling on Prius Chat a several days ago, my husband has become somewhat obsessed in finding me the best deal on a Prius. He has spent countless hours researching info. here. He has also driven me up to 200 miles away to look at a car from a private sale, in my preferred color, Blizzard Pearl. Loved It ! Leather Bisque interior! 2010 Prius IV w/40,000 miles.
Here's my question. Please help me out with your best objective opinion. He has found a dealer willing to sell him a PIP advanced for a theoretical $29,500, if you can count dealer discounting $5000 off $40,505 msrp. ,along with $6500 Toyota incentive. That's $11,500off right? I say theroretical because the sales tax is on the cost before $6500 incentive. ) Along with % financing which we should qualify for, no problem.
The dealer had two at that price but sold one before we could get there the next morning. Fair enough, after all
how would he know if we were real? Sold the Sea Glass Pearl and has a Winter Gray left.
Deal seems real enough. We test drove the PIP advanced (only 57mi.so far) and he says feels bad about selling the PIP with what would have been an acceptable color for me but not my preferrd Blizzard Pearl.
My husband says his research shows this is too good a deal to pass up!
I say I strongly dislike the color of the paint and the dark interior.
So, would you suggest I buy my color or is the PIP deal really too good to pass up?
Thank you for helping us out before Monday Feb. 4th $6500 is gone.
I can't seem make this decision with out your help.

Most don't like to make concessions. If "you're" serious about a great vehicle at a fantastic price, make the deal. Chances are, that car will be gone quick, if not already. I have the exact Prius, eleven days old. The advice I'm giving, is the same I followed. Result, extremely satisfied.

Thank you for your quick reply. When you say Prius I do you mean an advanced PIP?

I am slightly concerned my husband has actually become obsessed and may be blind to both reality and/or perhaps "my needs" Thanks

EXACT match (Prius I, was a typo). My preferred choice of color would have been silver. I could have had the light metallic blue, but didn't like it as much as the Winter gray. Darker interior is the best for me, I like the color and easy to maintain. When I say that car won't last, trust me. I too was obsessed with the discounts on the 2012 PIP. Don't like to make financial decisions in a frenzy. I found the car, made the deal, and glad I'm in the game, and not on the side line. Who knows what will happen with 2012-2013 PIP pricing on Feb 5th?

this deal is amazing and there's nothing theoretical about it.
if you really hate the color you can go to a body shop and have the entire car repainted in 2-3 years when it's full of dings for a few k.
