I have a 2011 prius 5. Need to change the tpms on the 17 inch rims. Does anyone know the part # or a good aftermarket tpms?
I do not know the part number but just to clarify your descriptions, TPMS is the Tire Pressure Monitoring System and includes the tire pressure sensors as well as the ECU that reads the sensors. What you want to change are the tire pressure sensors. If you change the sensors the car will need to be programmed to accept the new sensors or the new sensors will need to be programmed with the same serial numbers as the old sensors.
From what I understand it is not as simple as adding sensors. Either the car will have to be programmed to read the new sensors or the sensors will need to be programmed to match the old sensors so the car can read them. Of course the third option is to put up with the TPMS alarm light all winter
Are these 17" rims and snows? FWIW, even though our Canadian Touring model came with the 17" rims and 215/45R17, for snows I went with 15" steel rims (Corolla), and 195/65R15 tires. No extra sensors, just have a little light on the dash for the time the snows are on.
I had to replace a TPMS sensor on my 2010 hatchback, because of a "professional" tire changer when I got a damaged tire. I found a set of 4 on ebay for about $ 50.00, but I see prices have risen greatly since then. Dealer quoted $100. each ! Make sure they are Toyota suitable, to mate to the computer sensors. Dealer charged me $75.00 to program after the tire dealer installed. They said, at the time, they could not program, dealer only!
