Any news on Roof Racks?

I have had the Rhino Rack on for over 3 months now. When I first installed it with the Manufactures directions I expereinced the same problem with one of the clamps popping off. I re-installed it with a common sense approach and lined the pads up on the roof line where they seemed most natural. I havent had any issues since I did the re-install and have driven over 10,000 miles since.

It's a 12' long Kayak that folds up into a neat little box, they are in pre-production phase so you can only pre-order one right now and they run about $850. Pretty friggen cool though, would fit easily in the back of the Prius C, no rack required.

I wanna get one as soon as full scale production starts.

 

Lil' Blue, can you tell us which components of the Rhino Rack system worked? I am ready to pull the trigger, but I need to guide the salesman through the process.

I had my local Thule rep call and they said it is unlikely that they will come out with a clip on system like I was hoping. Because of the small area and angle of the rear door it is difficult to design something that meets their quality criteria. So, it's either go with another brand or install tracks. Looks like I'll be using my husband's car for the kayaks, which is sad because I was really hoping to use my C.

Do you have the model number of the thule rack you had perm installed? thanks

 

I am also curious on the model number of roof racks and any additional components that were used to install the racks. Autoanything is the vendor of choice for low price??

Looks great!...just ordered Whispbar Flush for my *other* car, Ebay open box special on Whispbar...wish me luck on EBay route, but if they have your car its one way to keep the cost down.

 

Have you noticed any problems with the limiting 88lbs weight limit on the Prius C for the Whispbar Throughrack? I know that with the Skybox at 30lbs, it only leaves you with 58 lbs of packable cargo weight. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

 

I haven't. I've easily exceeded 88 lbs with camping gear in my Yakima Rocketbox:

I have had the THULE (whisbar) permanent rack on min for about 2 years now ... super quiet .. next to no wind noise, very sturdy and looks great.
