i just installed mine but the problem is it says NO AUDIO i have a 2010 base - need help

When I installed it i did not plug anything into the new radio 28pin and did not use my existing 20pin - will that be the reason why there is no sound or audio off? When I turn the volume knob nothing happens to the radio. All features work except no sound.

I know this is an old post but i cannot seem to find any complete info on how this was done. I Just bought a 2012 HU and plan on installing it in my 2010. Does anyone have info on how the existing 20 pin connector connects to the HU 28 pin socket? Any info on the part number of the 28 pin connector and the best place to purchase it.

I bought the antenna adaptor. Are there any other parts i need apart from the 28 pin connector and the antenna adapter?

Good luck with that. I eventually gave up and went for a LCD rearview mirror instead.

The 28 pin connector is used for steering wheel controls, microphone (for Bluetooth cell calls)and aux input. Did you plan on adding all these features? The microphone was not present in my 2011 prius2, I was able to find one from a salvage yard
The 28 pin connector and pins are available from your local Toyota dealer.

The power/ speaker connector is the same but there is a amplified antenna connection that has to be changed or you will have no audio

My post (#6) here talks about the connectors: BACK UP CAMERA FOR 2012 PRIUS two TOUCH SCREEN- NON NAV | PriusChat

Thanks for your reply and the info.

Yes i do plan on adding the steering wheel controls, Bluetooth cell calls and aux input. I have a microphone from my current bluetooth installation which i plan on using in the new radio. I bought this antenna adapter (metra 40-LX21). Is this the antenna connection you are refering to?

Did anyone have any luck? I'm thinking about doing this too. I read the thread, but I'm getting caught up on the 28-pin plug. Sure, you buy it from Toyota, but what do you do with the pins? Do they map differently? I guess this thread is old, but I'm still curious.

Unfortunately a 28 pin radio connector and pigtail are needed to splice into the existing harness for steering wheel controls and microphone input if desired.
An additional 16 pin plug wiring is needed to connect to a rearview camera if desired.

I should note that without these additional connections the 2012 radio is a nice upgrade especially with the Bluetooth music streaming.

Even though I maintained steering wheel controls and added the rearview camera, the most important feature I wanted was the hands free cell use which required the four wire amplified microphone to be feed into the new 28 pin plug

I have a 2010 base. I started the install last night.

I removed the stock radio and connected the 2012 Radio (only the 16 pin connector and Antenna. I have not connected the 28 pin connector). So far it is not completely working. The Radio itself seems to be working fine but there is no sound at all.
I haven't had time to do any debug (probably this weekend) but it seems it is not quite as simple as pulling out the old radio and connecting the new one. The 28 pin connector according to everything i have seen and read on this board is only used for the steering wheel controls and mic, so it should work without it connected.

Anyway there is something that is not quite right.

The beige wire going to pin 8 on the 10 pin connector needs to be disconnected (its the amplified antenna output) and it mutes the audio on the 2012 radio

I connected this beige wire (antenna amplifier 12v supply) to the switched 12 v accessory supply at pin 3 of the 12 pin connector (gray wire)

The Toyota part number for the 28 pin plug is 90980-12555 ($12.27 when I bought it)
The pins are 82998-12870 (I never purchased them, I ended up getting a complete radio wiring harness setup from a salvage yard)

I do not have a 12 pin connector on my 2012 radio. Are you referring to the one side of the 16 pin connector (i.e. the 10 pin side)?

Yes, its the beige lead at pin 8 of the 10 pin connector. (I also corrected my post above)

Since I have another almost complete setup (2012 radio, camera & microphone, 28 pin bare plug),
I ordered a couple of plugs from mouser and pins so I should be able to post some nice pictures in a week or two of my extra bench radio setup before I let it go on Ebay.

Thanks for that tip IMkenNY. I installed the radio (Disconnected pin 8) and it seems to be working great. I didn't do the mods for the steering wheel, AUX and Mic functionality yet.

I found a 20 pin to 28 pin adapter online for a Scion Radio. The part number is PT546-00120-CH. Has anyone tried this? Any ideas if it will work for the Prius radio. From what i have found so far it seems like it would work but it's pretty expensive.

So far the only disappointing thing is the color difference. The 2012 radio is much lighter than the 2010 console.

I was reading your post about putting a 2012 prius radio into a 2011. I see most of the harness' will work but I also purchased a steering wheel with the Bluetooth buttons - do you know if I will need a wiring harness to make those work. Also, do I have to buy a new wiring harness for the aux input because I think the 2012 has both the 3.5 and USB connector. Thanks for any help you can offer. Erin

Any luck with that adapter? I am about to put a 2012 radio in my 2011. I'm calling junkyards to see if they have a harness I can pull. Does anyone know if there are there any other Toyota models that would use that 28 pin plug?

    You
Pin 8 of the 10 pin connector is the 12 volt power source for the amplified antenna for the 2011 radio and will mute the audio on the 2012 radio if left connected,
You can always use a volt meter to see if there's 12 volts on it (hook up your old 2011 radio) to make sure your disconnecting the correct wire.
