Make sure you practice opening the jumper port in the fuse box

Did you have to or just practice?

 

Am I missing something here, what is the challenge?

 

Hum, you are going to make me go open mine again and see what you are talking about. I just do not remember it being difficult or tricky.

 

What I have noticed is that the distance from the fuse-box terminal to the designated ground point is further than some (inexpensive) jump packs can span. This should be no big deal, but there's a lot of plastic coverings that make it difficult to get to an alternative ground point.

 

As long as you have a flashlight it's pretty easy to figure out. Just going by feel I'll sometimes have troubles: guessing wrong as to which side has the locking bit, which way to push it. I have as much trouble getting the fuse box cover to snap back on securely, with all the little hooks engaged. Remember at the dealership, when they were dealing with our dead 12 volt (car sat on the lot a long while), they didn't get it right either.

 

I finally got around to checking my 12V jump terminal cover last night. It was still light outside so I was able to see well.

With plenty of light it was quite obvious to me that the cover was hinged on the right hand side so you would have to release it on the left hand side. The release latch was easy to see and release. Granted I have done this before to check the 12V battery voltage with a meter so I was familiar with this.

The OP does make a valid point that if you have not done this before it is a good idea to do this before you really need to do this. Without adequate lighting I could easily see where it might be difficult to find the release latch.

 

When I installed a louder horn I had to run a wire to that box. I do not recall it being hard to open.

 

^ It's not hard to open. Just a mite tricky to close, to get all the latches engaged properly.

And not really difficult, hey: this is a trivial difficulties thread, didn't you know.

 

Are you referring to the door over the 12V jump point or the fusebox cover? I opened my fusebox cover and the jump point cover using only my fingers. It was like 36 degrees when I did this.

I guess I am confused by your difficulty.

 

There is no way we are talking about the same thing. I just went in the garage and opened with one hand while holding my cell phone in the other. It takes seconds. No tools needed. Is this what you are talking about? Or is it something else?
