It's been cold enough here to give a brass monkey something to think about. The two pictures below show my mpg a couple of weeks ago after the christmas holidays. 2007, Gen II, 77,000+ miles on the clock. 2 degees C, 322 miles AND 60.4MPG!!! 100 miles later .... 3 degrees C, and 60.5MPG!!! Don't you just love the winter.
irish winter is like boston spring. well done tho! i used to get 65 summer, 60 spring and fall and 55 winter. 7 mile commute each way.
That's the sort of numbers i'm seeing but I can "not all the time" add 10mpg to that in the summer. I'm ahead of you with a 2008 with just under 90,000 on the clock. John (Britprius)
Remember that these are miles per UK gal, so 60MPG is approx 50 MPG US. Still good MPG for that temperature Chippy.
Well, here in Michigan winter, cold weather does indeed mean lower mpgs...lol. I went from 52mpg average in warmer months to barely being able to squeek out 45mpg now. And Im employing every hypermiling technique I can just to get that! lol Im sure it will dip below 45mpg this week because the temperatures are going down to the single digits, tomorrow the high is 20f degress and the low is 6f. Actually I just checked and with the wind chill tomorrow, its going to feel like -13f degrees I know the Prius doesnt feel that, but with it being 6f degrees and windy, it will definitely murder my mpgs even more
I have the exact opposite problem PriusGuy. Winter here is barely cold enough to have any effect on MPG (mostly over 50F) but summer is starting to knock my fuel economy. We had 115F (46C) a few days ago and even though I had the A/C set really high (about 80F) it was still sucking so much power that I was having trouble getting the SOC above about 4 to 5 bars max. That really impacts on its ability to "glide" efficiently and that's were the loss of MPG arises. LOL, I can't wait for winter.
I've been getting 45 mpg with every technique I can think of. It has been below zero for a few days, but I just got my prius a few weeks ago, and haven't driven it in summer. But 3 C is rather warm compared to the winters here.
