Stopped by a dealership with their own body repair shop. When they called their wholesale parts counter they were as surprised as I was to learn that there's no touchup paint or even paint code for those parts. They gave me a free 1D7 touchup paint and apologized for Toyota's lack of service, but it's not a close enough match to use. Even they reported that my only option is to replace the whole part along with a new set of emblems (can't stick the old emblems on the new part). I'm going to get some quotes on having the pieces painted Sea Glass Pearl so I can touch them up as needed like we should have been able to in the first place.

Probably the last update until Toyota comes out with a touch up paint for the silver trim. The dealer quoted me $600 total price to replace the part, which is the only option for repairing a ding.

    $280 for the part
$ 80 for new emblems (they can't restick the old ones)
    $240 for labor

Just checked back on this thread -- thanks for all the feedback. That does not seem right that Toyota would not offer touch up, but so it goes.

I may get a shark fin in wintergray and experiment with plastidip colors. If I find somethign that works, I will post it here.

You might want to try Testors Silver model paint. Looks like a good match to the Silver trim on my PiP, which is Winter Gray Metalic. One can purchase Testors model paint at any toy store. All metal flake paints (Front, rear, and door handles are metal flake Silver paint.) are tough exact matches. Anyway, better than the dings & chips. I used a wisk broom straw to dab a tiny amount of the touch up on small dings. Remember to shake / stir paint well beforehand. I found it strange Toyota did not have a touch up for the Silver parts that are so prone to rock & shopping cart dings. In 1984, had Dark Red Toyota van, it had a White plastic front panel, with "TOYOTA" on it. Same problem with rock dings & no touch up..

It might be worth starting a PC sticky of touch-ups that work on trim, wheels, etc.

A plan B would be to repaint the whole part with some readily available paint, then you would be able to touch it up.

Can you share a picture of the touchup? I got two different Toyota metallic silver touchup paints and they almost look worse than the ding.

The ding repaired was from shopping cart damage to the back of my PiP. Cart was still against car when I found it. ( I always park far away from the crowds too.) The Testors Silver is from a 1970's model kit & a perfect match right from bottle. Unless I am really looking, can't notice the repair at all. My computer is so old dealing with photos is a real hassel. Think the Toyota touchup paint for cars.. One is too light, & the other too dark. Did ask my dealer first. They suggested body shop.. The estimate was crazy for such a small ding, so started thinking about paints & what could be used to fix the darn eyesore. Might add am a woodcarver, hense the handle, also like to paint landscapes.
