Price Paid on PIP?

No, in staying consistent with what we have been reporting on this forum, I'm just reporting the vehicle sales price including the TFS incentive. So I mean sub-$31k + TTL. Then take off another $2.5k tax credit and the $1.5k CA rebate.

Finally + $1k shipping for me. So total net for me looks like just under $28k + TTL.

Still, I wish I lived in West Virginia.

 

Does anyone know if Toyota is giving an incentive on purchasing the BASE PiP? From what I can see on Edmunds, it seems to be only 4K incentive on lease, not purchase. But Boch Toyota in MA lists a 4K incentive on 0% financed purchase, also.

when i punch in my old NJ zip code, I get 0% APR for 60 months on the Plug-in, with a $6500 rebate for the Advanced model. so looks like Base model gets no TFS rebate. you are correct that lease is showing a $4k rebate for all models (though note that you're losing the $2500 IRS rebate when you choose to lease!).
i don't think there are any Base 2012 left anyway so this seems like a moot point.

You are picking it up from the East Coast and driving it back to SD? Wow.

 

TFS rebate in CA is just $500, on both models

i suspect he means that he will pick it up at the shipping terminal instead of getting it delivered to his door so he doesn't miss delivery or have to take a day off from work

 

The finance was $37,244???????? How did you avoid paying taxes? Didn't you put the taxes into your payments?

 

I should correct to say that I also financed the tax portion as well. Out the door was around $41,000. But the cost of the car before TTL was $37,744 minus $500 finance rebate provided by Toyota Financial. Finance rebate showed up as a down payment on the financing documentation.

Actually, I'm going to go out there to sign paperwork, take possession of the car, and give it to the shipper. I couldn't find any dealers with good prices who would do a deal 100% remotely.

But I do plan to have it shipped to a terminal near me for the reasons lensovet mentioned.

 

Here was my deal folks. I live in California, and with all the information and encouragement on this forum, I started shopping on the east coast. Actually first started in South Bay and valleys here in Los Angeles and the best deal I could get with the weak incentives was around 37500(including the Toyota finance incentive)+ 8.75 tax ($3,325)plus title (about $600) plus license fees! Very similar to Wolverines deal. ALL the dealers (even very nice Dianne) were within 300 of each other.

That's when I started looking East. It was quite easy, actually. The Toyota website gives real time inventory for all the dealers in the US! Just googled an East Coast zip code say in New Jersey and then go down the list! They connect you to the dealers website and from their you can see their current inventory! These deals are truly done over the phone. Most dealers were eager to continue talking once I said I told them I was from California. Many wondered why I would shop from so far away. Once I revealed the incentives (5,000 vs. 500) they got the point. After a while you can kind of figure out which ones will have good prices and which won't.

Some dealers had 10-12 and some had 1-2 in stock, but price color and options are listed PRETTY clearly. The reason why I say pretty clearly is because some of these guys would have a list price of 31,000!! You'd say WOW that's cheap and call them up only to find out that that price includes the assumed 2,500 federal credit, particular States rebate credit etc etc....there was no way you were getting an advanced for 31,000$

Anyway, once you're only on the phone and 3,000 miles away, they lose the pressure tactic or the dealership press as I like to call it. It took about 5 dealerships to find the right one. Blizzard pearl, Advanced. P.S. the one thing I noticed about the east coast cars is that almost all have NO options like a 80$ rear bumper appliqué, or illuminated door sills or lower moldings etc. if you want those you can buy them for a lot cheaper than what the dealer prices them at.

Mine only had the floor mats extra, hence the $40,730 MSRP.

If you're not patient, or can't stand the wait, then buying East coast is not for me. As an example, I agreed in principal on price and drew up the contract on December 12, 2012. I didn't receive the car until January 3rd, 2013. Reasons?? Well finding a transporter takes time, paperwork came back and forth and they had forgot to include the 0 down paperwork, so I had to wait a few days for the new paperwork, then, because they are shipping(or maybe because its out of state buyer) I had to get insurance for the car BEFORE THEY SOLD THE CAR TO ME. even though my current insurance covers new purchases, the dealer sent me the vin number and I had to get a binder policy. This may be dealer specific so YMMV.

Technology Helps....I was able to get my sales guy Charles take a video of the car (odo only had 5 miles!) got pics of the vin badge to make sure of the California, 50 state emissions etc. so that makes the transaction feel much safer.

Long story short it was very doable, and well worth the 3,000-4,000$ in savings. Car came to me without a scratch and temporary MD tags. You will have to get a 'vin inspection' so there was some confusion about that but the CHP does it for free so no problem there. Then you have to send the dealer the vin inspection paperwork back and that completes the registration and purchase of the car. They also use a company that specializes in out of state ttl transfers and registrations. This service cost me about 150 extra for the accommodation, so I hope it all works out. I rolled my CA tax into the total too at 0% 60 months....WOW!

First-time poster here! Wanted to thank all the members here for all the good info in this thread.

Just bought my own 2013 PiP (actually, it's my first car purchase ever) in S. California. Silver color, base model. Only dealer accessories were the floor mats. I was searching high and low for a 2012 model to see if I could score a killer deal, but seems like all the dealerships in the area are completely sold out of the base models.

I put $15k down and financed the rest at 0% for 36 months.

-$1500 CA CVRP rebate

Pretty happy with my purchase, though I wish I could have cashed in on some of those sweet TFS deals going on before the new year!

 

In the press, it seems that it is always stated that one reason plug-ins aren't selling as well as standard Prius is the $10,000 price differential. This article in the local newspaper Plenty of green carpool stickers remain available - San Jose Mercury News is the latest. But on this forum, the word seems to be that after federal, state, and Toyota discounts, that the price of a base PiP is comparable to that of a standard Prius. So which way is it? Does the press just have it wrong (again)?

 

The truth is probably in between. It sells if the cost is the same as no-plug. It won't sell if it is $10k extra.
