I will keep updating this.. Parts list so far: Rear speaker adapters (did not fit properly, needed to modify) Front speaker adapters (convert 6x9 to 6.5") MTX 600DX MonoBlock AMP PPI S320.4 4-channel AMP MTX Thunder dual 12" box 4 Polk DB651 Stinger SGN11 Fixed Line Output Converter Generic 4Channel ground loop isolator Misc RCA cables Peal and seal from Lowe's (not paying the premium for Dynamat or similar) Well, I finally got around to doing my radio upgrade in my 2012 Prius 2. The stock stereo is mediocre at best. I am also posting it to my blog. Stock rear speakers. They are 6.5" and are well integrated into the mounting. Staying with the stock radio, I need to re-run all new wiring. I'm adding sound deadening material to everything I could. Inner/outer door panels, trunk, floor..
Do you need to tear the dash apart that far to get to the radio? Also if you are staying with the stock radio what will you be using for a LOC? I am looking at different options for LOC's and it seems you can get simple $15 up to well into the $2-300 range depending on features. Audio Control seems to have quite a few nice choices.
My recommendation for a LOC is to purchase the following: Bazooka FAST-1761 1987-Up Fast-Toyota/ Geo Bazooka FAST-BTAH Fast Extension Cable This will allow you to run wires all the way to the trunk/cargo without splicing into any of the factory wiring. I then connected the LOC to the end of the FAST-BTAH. Reference my write-up: another cubby fliberglass enclosure | PriusChat I hope this helps.
You don't need to rip the dash apart like I did, but I ran my own wires, so I needed to hide them up under the dash. I was actually going to go with a nice sound processor, but I decided to go cheaper and see what happened. The combination of better speakers, sound deadening and quality amps made the sound really come to life. The AMP I picked has has high level inputs with lots of sound controls. I am in the process of ditching the high level inputs and going with pre-amps. The high inputs really have a lot of noise. I'll update the OP with the components.
Thanks for the replies and sorry for the thread jack. I will look into the bazooka loc's. As far as processing goes I have a couple of Kenwood KAC-X4R's with on board processing (time alignment/cross overs ect.) that I am thinking of using. So a simple noise free loc is all that is needed. Again thanks and sorry for the derail. Now back to your nice install!
