I'm still getting used to my prius and hybrids in general so there are a few things that I still don't know about them. But what what makes that cool whirring sound you hear when accelerate from a stop or coast? It's got a cool scifi buzz. EVO ? 2
You're probably referring to VPNS. 2012 Prius Vehicle Proximity Notification System (VPNS) - Video | PriusChat has a video of it. Toyota put it on all '12 and beyond hybrids. There are a few folks here who absolutely railed against it (e.g. Maverick Hiker) and went out of his way to buy an '11 Prius so he wouldn't have VPNS. It was almost like his crusade.
Yes! That's exactly the sound I'm referring to, wow! Really? People hate that sound? I didn't know that it had a name. Ya' know... People at my work complained that Prii would stealthily sneak up on them (you're supposed to be paying attention while walking through a parking lot--is what I tell my five-year-old...) and scare them, BOO! I'm a Prius!! Toyota solves that and now people complain about the solution? I'm just glad that I finally get to drive a car that sounds like a UFO! Which is what I thought cars in the future would sound like when I was a kid. Oh we'll, I like scifi. Thanks for the info. iPad ? HD
Its actually just a speaker underneath that screams it out, and can apparently be disconnected fairly easily. I wish I could customize it to sound like a car from The Jetsons personally.
