I've got an 06 Prius, Package #5. I've also got a 17 pound Bichon pup that usually rides in the front seat. As he moves around checking out the sights, he sets off the seatbelt alarm repeatedly. Does anyone know how to shut that off?

    Thanks!

There's instructions here for this mod and others.

    Disabling Reverse Beep
    • Power on the car, Cycle ODO/TRIP, stopping on ODO, Power off the car.
    • Power on, within 6 seconds, hold ODO for at least 10 seconds.
    • While still holding ODO shift into Reverse and back into Park.
    • b-on shows on speedometer display, press ODO to cycle to "b-off".

    • This also works for the seatbelt beep, replace shifting with buckling/un-buckling.

If all else fails, just buckle the front seat belt.

I tried this, nothing happened till I sat on the passenger side as far as "b-off" showing up on screen. I will take the wife to diner, we will see if it works.

Don't know how much weight was on the seat, but I set it off with a work file and my purse on the back edge of the seat. When I moved the purse forward I got it to stop.

My briefcase sets it off from time to time - Not much in it other than my laptop.

My dog weighs 20 lbs. The two times I have allowed her in the car, it beeped. I just buckled the belt behind her.

Kid's carseat set it off too. It might weigh 20 lbs. Same thing; buckled the belt behind it.

. . . And NO! The kid was not in the car seat. I had to move it to the front in order to fold down the back seats for some boxes. :p

Couldn't get this to work, either, until I sat in the passenger seat.

Thanks for all the help. I'm away from the car for a few days and will give this a try.

A hard cover novel in the right place will set it off in my 2005. Also, a lunch box with a bowl of soup and a can of coke will do it. Fortunately, the 2005 defaults to just turning on the seatbelt light for the passenger seat and does not produce an audible alarm.

So I need to be sitting in the passenger seat while going throught thr disabling steps? I tried numerous times while sitting in the driver seat to no avail.
    Thanks!

A 12-pack of Michelob Light bottles will do it. Yeah, I'm a drunk. But not whilst driving!!! :)

What I would like to know is HOW MUCH weight does it take to set off the passenger seatbelt alarm? i looked in the owners manual and don't see any specs for this. I put my school bag on the passenger seat and it kept telling me to buckle in my passenger. I can put just my purse on the seat and it does not go off, so there must be a weight trigger. Yes I could have put the bag in the back seat, but that is not the point. I am curious--What is the weight limit to set the alarm off?

Last night a kind of scary red sign/alarm went off until I moved my pocket book, a case of soda, and some other things around. (They were on the passenger seat.) I've never seen this warning before. I got the impression that the air bag was about to inflate. I was going maybe 5mph. I'm very familiar with the standard polite beeping reminding me to buckle my seat belt. This was different. I also have started keeping a hard plastic basket on the floor between the passenger seat and the glove box. It could have been pressing against the seat and/or the glove box. Also, I usually do buckle the seat belt around my pocket book and other things on the passenger seat, but last night I was in a hurry and didn't do that. Anybody know what the red sign and alarm was about?
