I have it set to switch automatically, but at night it doesn't darken. I have to go into the map settings and back, then it updates or something and turns on the night mode. Does that use the light sensor, or the time of day?
It changes from night to day based on if the headlights are on, AFAIK. If the dimmer switch is clicked so the gauges stay at full brightness, even when the headlights are on, this may prevent it from switching over.
Nope, when I turn on the headlights, the map doesn't go into night mode. The brightness dims along with panel but the map stays in day mode. ( I don't mean backlight brightness, I mean the map night mode where it changes to darker colors)
Mine does the same thing. If you're driving while it gets dark, then it will switch to night mode....the black background on the map. But, if you turn on the car when it's dark...it stays only in the regular day mode...dimmed. A quick workaround I've discovered is to turn your headlights off...then back on. It's easier than fiddling with the gps menus.
Here are pics I took to clarify what I mean (for anyone who isn't aware of this feature) Daytime mode: Night Mode:
I'm in my fathers car right now and he has the same display as you in your three and when I turn his headlights on the nav screen goes into night mode. Wen I turn the headlights off the nav screen goes back into day mode.
Have you reported this bug to the Toyota customer experience center, as it is most definitely a bug which I would think can be fixed in a future update.
I have reported this and another bug with Bluetooth, but never received any communication back from them. I have not reported it to the dealership yet, which I will do next time I go in for service. I have a feeling that the dealership won't notify Toyota, but instead just tell me it's a known bug and yadda yadda...
Haha, yeah I agree about the dealership just telling you what you would like to hear. Here's to hoping they can get this fixed for everyone, I'm sure my dads car operates the same way I just never drive it at night to have noticed.
