Whats your average speed and mpg?

My experience at that speed is about 42-44 mpg. Not bad at all. I would consider getting a bigger car though. The C is small and gets blown around. Its not a highway cruiser. But that all depends on if you notice that kind of thing or not.

 

You would better off in a Liftback with such a long freeway commute and hilly terrain.

In the summer you can still get over 50mpg at those speeds as long as you don't go crazy with the AC.

 

Right now, driving between 50-55 mph, I'm averaging 60 mpg on the highway. That's with a gradual incline going to work & gradual decline coming back. Hope that helps

 

I am guessing you will see 12 mpg increase over your present vehicle at those speeds. I pretty much drove those speeds myself. After purchasing the C I must admit that I have slowed down a bit. Everyone is different.

As much as I wouldn't want to discourage anyone getting a Prius, if all you are getting it for is an increase in MPG's then you will never save any money over the previous car. Though economics rarely come into the picture with car buying. It would take an awful lot of gas to make up for the price of a new car, or even the price difference if you are trading up. Once again, I don't want to discourage any potential buyers out there. I will purchase a c in the future when I have saved up enough money to do so (really cant wait till then ), but until that time, its cheaper to drive my Jeep around (despite the poor MPG's). Sorry for this rant, ultimately its not my place to decide whether people invest in a new vehicle or not (just would like to see people drive their current ones longer, assuming nothing is wrong with them).

I drive mainly highway on my 80 mile daily commute to work.
Drive Speed: 70-75 mph
Winter: 44 mpg
Past summer 2012: 47-49 mpg

My daily commute is 25-45 MPH, slightly less than 10 miles per direction. In the winter, I'm getting 50-60 MPG and in the spring/summer I was getting 80+.

 

Well, its only been 2 weeks, but its been 1700 miles; I've been getting no less than mid-40s highway mpg in the morning, and even better on the drive home. I now make a game of stretching the mileage on the whole day [reset Trip B odometer every morning that I leave for work] to 50+ mpg on an average speed of 45-50 mph for the day. Average highway speed is in the range of 65-72 mph over hilly north Georgia terrain.

About 50% better than my Honda Fit.

 

51mpg today (shown). Pretty much doing errands all day (half city) and it was 36F all day. I love this thing, my employer pays my kilometers...1$ gas saved is 1$ in my pocket.

 

If you want to continue driving between 70 - 80 mph, I would not recommend a Prius c.

This car shines at lower speeds. If fuel economy is your goal, you can find routes that allow you to drive more slowly and add a little time to your commute, then the c becomes a more reasonable choice. It appears you'll be driving more than 30k miles a year, so do the math to see if it is economically feasible.

If our masters in the government continue their present lunatic energy policies, your concern over increasing fuel prices is well founded and the c becomes cheap insurance.
