Central locking issue

    The C is the first hatch I have owned so maybe this is normal, a couple of times now I lock my car then remember I have something in 'the boot' (or whatever you call it in a hatch) and open the hatch door. Being used to a sedan I then just close it and walk away, forgetting that it has reopened all of the car! Is this a normal feature for a Hatch, I would have preferred if Toyota just let you open the hatch without unlocking all the other doors. I came back to my car after 6 hours yesterday to find it open! At least no one had got in it!

    we used to have a mini cooper and I remember it doing the same thing. I always just relock it just in case, just to make sure.

    Using the remote to lock doors is a test that all doors are properly shut. Your Prius won't respond if any door is "ajar". Leaving a door open will easily drain the little 12v battery - not good.

    Hallett505... I'm going to take a punt here and guess you might be Australian.

    I don't know about other markets, but here, yes, central locking in hatchbacks will typically lock and unlock all five doors including the hatch... and the Prius c certainly behaves this way.

    When you close up just reach under the latch area and press the rounded knob to the right of the flat latch release.

    Oh and yes, while technically that space is the luggage or cargo area, most Australians will still call it the boot and even Toyota sells the rubber liner accessory as the "boot liner", so you're fine. :)

    Since I want to speak like a British person (I love watching Top Gear and hearing how they say things), so I like it when people use the term 'boot' and 'bonnet'.

    Thanks Rob and yes I am Aussie, from Adelaide in fact! I need to take the C to the dealer for the free first month check up (they throw in a double pass to the local cinema as well which is nice) so I may ask if there is anything in the door settings the dealer can change as I would prefer if opening the hatch simply unlocked the hatch and nothing else. Very happy with the car otherwise, such a pleasure to drive, current tank ave is 4.2lit/100

    Mine has proximity sensor so I don't touch my keys all day, it does however beep and carry on if any door is open when you touch the handle to lock the car

    Worth a shot, but the manual gives the impression this is not an available customisation. The US model does have the option of a two-stage unlock for driver's door only/all doors, but ours doesn't even have that, at least as far as the manual describes. Your dealer sounds better than mine though... for the free check-up I did take mine back to the selling dealer who I probably won't otherwise use and to be honest for them I took in a photocopy of the customisation pages of the manual and highlighted the settings I wanted them to change (namely I wanted the "beep" confirmation of locking/unlocking turned off). I suspected if I didn't they'd have told me it couldn't be done.

    I'm currently on a lifetime calculated average of 4.3 l/100km. It's a good car. :)

    They also offer 3 years/60 000 km of fixed price $140 services as well and also include free roadside service, so very happy with that and finally did I mention the Toyota loan? 1% interest for 4 years! I think I will paying just over $1000 in interest and they even let me add on $6000 gap that I owed from the old lease car I had, very impressed with that!

    That's the "Toyota Service Advantage" (and for the c it should be $130). It belongs with the car by VIN and you can get each one at any dealer in the country, a feature I'll be using it as I'm not a fan of the service department where I bought the car. :)

    It should be noted that it only includes items specified in the standard maintenance items and only parts marked for replacement in the schedule. If they find anything else needs replacing (eg. a bulb or wiper blades), that'll be considered a consumable and you'll be charged for that.

    This arrangement seems to be standard for most new cars at the moment.

    To test whether the car is locked or not, try a back door.
