Competition is tough! Toyota Prius C was the "Honda Insight" killer.
The number of vehicle sold told the whole story. Consumers are not dumb, when a fake Hybrid trying to mimic a Prius, it just does not work. The consumers market has spoken. I just feel sorry for the 5,846 people purchased the Honda Insight. Honda Insight for year 2011, sold 15,549 - a 62.4% drop. That is a fiasco for Honda IMHO.

 

Now, if you compared the Toyota and Honda, you would notice that Honda has a lot of negatives percentage marked in red. Toyota Lexus only has one negative (in red).

 

If you take out the Trucks SUVs and duplicating of the types of cars (Civic) and only allow one entry for the name. Prius is ranked 9th. It also has the highest percentage of year over year of growth (For the Top 10).

If you are going to do that, you may want to remove the thing not like the others. The prius c is part of marketing, its a totally different platform.

It doesn't include the C, The Plugin, the V, or the other. Are you saying the 236,659 combines all models? If so I'm confused as the models numbers add up to 236,699 which is not 236,659 which I was taking to be a different number. So something is wrong with the table at the link. I did check the Civic's numbers and they added up to the top line. I was looking at the Prius numbers and since they didn't match (although I thought it strange they were so close) that they must have been different models. I was trying to wrap my head around the difference between the Liftback and the Prius without the Liftback word.

Yes it combines all models, they add up to 236,699. This is 40 cars off, which means that there is a small mistake in at least one of the numbers.

I do not know which numbers are not accurate, but they appear to be close.

 

I am surprised that the Honda Fit numbers went down. It is a good car. Too much competition.

 

Civic had a big boost, likely some of those fit buyers were upgraded to civics. fit is built in Japan right now, but moving to mexico. I expect higher numbers for the fit because of devalued yen, then shift of production in the near future.

 

VW also was moved to Mexico. The engine consumes a quart of oil at 500 miles. I would not buy a car from Mexico.

 

I was answering why fit sales dropped. I have worked with factories in Japan and in Mexico. Including Japanese companies manufacturing in Mexico. Some of them cut corners and quality suffers. Those like Honda that will transport their quality system are unlikely to have quality issues.

This is way off topic. I do not drive a vw, but have not heard of a new one burning a quart of oil every 500 miles. If that was the case their needs to be a recall.

 

Happened with a poster on another site. After the panning CR gave the Civic, I think many dealers were offering discounts to move the cars. So Fit buyers that didn't need a hatch got a Civic at a good price.
