For the Advanced owners out there, do you have problems with XM NavTraffic? I find it is intermittent in that I don't always get traffic information on my map. Also, there seems to be a long delay between actual road condition status vs the NavTraffic info that gets shown on the map compared to Google Maps/Apple Maps/Sigalert. It is possible the long delay is simply due to the intermittent/unreliably slow updates over XM and not necessarily the traffic data source. Both of these problems make XM NavTraffic pretty useless, since I can neither rely on having any traffic data at all or when I do have traffic that it is relatively accurate. I haven't seen others complain about this, so maybe it's just a problem with my car?

For the Base owners, is NavTraffic reliably available and up-to-date?

I have no idea where the base model pulls its traffic data from, though it's definitely not XM.
In my limited usage of it (after all, you have to "open" it EVERY DAMN TIME manually after starting the car), it seems to be fairly correct. However, one weird thing is that after you first open it, it doesn't refresh the data instantly, but instead waits something like 10-15 seconds.

NavTraffic on the base comes from Entune on your smartphone. Yeah, sometimes it doesn't come on at all or takes a hell of a long time to appear. But mine usually comes on after I turn on Pandora.

Lol, but Entune doesn't have its own data. Obviously there's still a provider of some sort for it. Maybe it's telenav, or navteq, or inrix. That's what I meant when I said I have no idea where it comes from.

On my Advanced PiP, there is often a 10 - 15 minute delay between actual traffic and NAV traffic as displayed. In Wash DC, this means that the general traffic condition is accurate enough to plan for starting out but a completely new wreck or jam will be a surprise if it happens on the route within 10 miles of travel time. So, for me the NAV traffic is an 80% solution - not perfect but better than no solution at all.

I would consider 10-15 seconds to be real-time compared to what I'm seeing with XM NavTraffic. It will be fairly common that no traffic info shows up at all during a 20-60 minute drive.

    I was thinking Bing.

For OP, If you really need updated, accurate traffic, sigalert.com is the best in so cal. My phone can display the map reasonably well in desktop viewer mode.

ah....that clears the confusion, but where it comes from, I don't know either, maybe it just shows up in the universe:whistle:

From the replies, I gather I may not have been clear in my original post so I've updated it. The delayed traffic info may very well be caused by the slow XM NavTraffic updates I'm seeing, not necessarily the traffic data source itself. This is why I asked how quickly Base owners receive traffic updates and is the info up-to-date.

From the replies, there is conflicting information between lensovet who sees updates quickly and prius_kitty who does not. No one has replied about how up-to-date the traffic info is against other sources like SigAlert.

I have the PIP Advanced so my understanding is that its different from the base in that the Navigator uses XM Traffic data. Mine also is delayed, typically not updating until about 5 minutes or so into the route. Depending on your route options that can make it useless for starting up the car and choosing the best route based on traffic. Fortunately for me my alternate routes show the same starting few miles of freeway so I can still change once it updates but its frustrating that it is not accurate when you start your trip.
