Reasonable Price for C3?

If you check truecar.com even they build in a $760 "destination" fee into their prices, it was built into my invoice cost. There is no dealer on earth that waives this fee.

 

I just got my Prius C3 last week - I got it for $1150 off MSRP - the total for the car, ALL-IN, including tax (7.75% in Illinois) was $23150 or so (that did include the carpet mats/trunk mat too).

I got the car at month end - knew the dealership was trying to move their cars so I negotiated pretty hard with them. I don't have alloys, so that would push the price up a little - but nonetheless, try a different place!

 

I got the Prius C2 last week for $20,600 in Little Rock, AR. About $2K below their sticker price..

 

Where are you located? I looked at the Little Rock inventory. You paid same price I did in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Purchased from Landers. I actually live in North Little Rock, AR and work in Bryant, AR. I had to wait a bit on mine as no local lot had them in hand. I had to wait I believe about a week..

 

Great, glad you got one that suits you.
After some time I was able to figure out that dealers listed cars that were still on the boat. If they had actual picture, they had the car. If a factory generic picture, the car had not arrived yet.
This is a sweet little ride. Getting the windows tinted Wednesday and that will be the last personl thing done to our's.

Need your help/expertise!!! About to bite the bullet TOMORROW on the the Prius c Model three with alloy wheels.

Current MSRP: $23,010
Dealer Current Offer: $21,300 (plus taxes,fees, etc.)

The CATCH: it has 108 miles on it (salesman couldn't give me a straight answer but I assume people test driving, etc.).

So would you jump on this RIGHT AWAY given the 108 miles already on it? Any concerns with buying a car with that many miles already?

If it was the car I wanted I would look it over really good. If no dings or any problems, I would buy it. Don't think those few miles would bother me.

Wow! Florida sure seems to be the place to get the deals. Most of the Cs in my area are pre sold before they even hit the lots. Lots of folks buying them without a test drive. I wish I had the time to just fly out there and drive one home!

I just bought my Prius C3 3 weeks ago with a sticker price of $23,010. I paid $21,500 plus tax. I thought it was a great deal. Go to more than one dealer before you purchase it. Get a feel for the way the dealer negotiates and see who you feel more comfortable dealing with. No matter which C you buy 1, 2, 3 or 4, you should be getting somewhere between $1,200-$1,500 off the sticker price.

 

Do it, buy it right away. I paid $200 more than you($21,500 plus taxes) and it had 160 miles on it. Remember, you're gonna keep this car for the long run, what's an extra 100 miles? Plus, sometimes its better since at least you know the car has been broken in a little, haha. But seriously, 108 miles are nothing to lose any sleep over. Good luck.
BTW, I bought the extended warranty (10yr/ 100,000 miles) bumper to bumper including all electrical and mechanical components for only $1,250. I thought it was well worth it. They first started the price at around $2,800 and kept bring it down because I told them I wasn't interested. You can even use the 108 miles as a negotiating point to get a better deal on the extended warranty.

 

Yeah I ended up deciding to pay a couple hundred more for the alloy wheels plus moonroof with 10 miles on it. Definitely enjoying this car, already hit 1000 miles

 

After 2 weeks of phone tag with ~15 local (SF Bay Area) dealerships, I got an incredible deal on the C3.

$21,000 for the 2012 C3 with 15" alloys, floor and trunk mats, rear bumper protector. (The price does not include taxes, or $80 document fee, or DMV fees. But it is inclusive of any destination fees or charges for accessories). Magnetic Gray Metallic. Original sticker price was $23,100. Was swayed at the last minute by leather seats for $1,100, which was in addition to the 21K base price shown above.

Feeling very lucky! Also so thankful to the people on this forum (especially priusc123), the information was very helpful in figuring out the ballpark lowest cost to expect. Which kept me from accepting a higher offer, which led me a better offer than I was even hoping for. Strategy was to keep calling dealers, telling them I was in the midst of shopping all over the area, and asking what their best offer might be. Found it was helpful to let them know right away that I would be calling multiple places, as they more quickly dropped to their bottom line price. Also I made it clear that I was serious about purchasing, but was in no rush.

Round 2 was to call back the most promising places to see if they were interested in counter offering. Some dealers complained that they were losing money and how could I ask them to go any lower? My response was - "If it is too low, I understand. You shouldn't sell me the car at that price if it doesn't make sense. But I am definitely going to buy this car and I am looking to find the best price on it." For most dealerships the final price was way too low. But lucky for me, one dealership was interested and I also found them respectful and honest so I was more than happy to purchase from them.

I did not understand the term "quota" before, as it relates to selling cars. But I think I have a better understanding of it now. The dealership that sold me the car said they were really losing money on the sale. I asked why they were still talking to me. The answer was that they had not been selling a lot of the C's and if they could sell this one, Toyota would ship them two more as a replacement... and it is a lot easier to sell the car if they have it in stock. So I got lucky time-wise because I called when they really wanted to move a C off the lot and were willing to lose money over it.

So - thank you all for the input on this forum and I wanted to add a little more info to help the next person who is trying to negotiate. If you live in an area with a lot of dealers, it is possible to get a great deal, you just have to be informed and patient. Maybe a little lucky too.

Could you explain how did you get such a deal on the standard PRIUS? Obviously, you must have contacted and negotiated toward the end of the month but still would like to know how did you end up getting $4000 off? I would appreciate your detailed explanation. Thank you from W. Texas
