Here's my install this week after receiving Prius Shop's fog light kit Did the install behind my work back driveway. Getting down and dirty taking off the panels while my dog is trying to distract me. This kit was bought from Prius Shop, I added on 50W HID 6000K to replace the original H11 Halogen bulbs. Fog lights mounted Fuse block mounted and grounded, power wire connected to fuse box. Testing if the fog lights + HID work 100% before wrapping it up Internal fog light switch wired according to the instructions that came with the kit Everything wrapped up and all done. Now I can drive and see everything. Overall install is straight forward nothing really technical about the kit. The quality of the OEM replacement fog light switch is pretty poor, if you press too hard you can easily break the side covers so you got to be gentle when you are putting the switch into the panel. Overall install time 2.5 hours with help of a co-worker. Enjoy. W202MAE
Congrats on your install. It is a straight forward installation with good instructions. Yes, the switch is poor design. My switch came apart shortly after installation. The two halves on the back of the switch just snap together. Evidently mine had un-snapped when I installed. I was able to snap it back together and all has been fine. If mine comes apart again I plan to wrap it electrical tape.
Thanks, actually me too mine unsnapped when I was trying to install the switch but I was able to snap it back. if the side covers break the switch will not function on and off correctly so yeah have to becareful there.
How much room do you have behind the foglight assembly? I'm curious because HIDs in non-projector foglights is a very bad idea and I would love to see some retrofit action in the those fog light housings. Keep an eye on the reflector housing. With 50w ballasts and aftermarket HID bulbs it will get VERY hot in there and could ruin the reflectors by melting the reflective coating. The mod looks great. I just hope you're not blinding everyone on the road with unfocused light.
FBL - Originally I was also concerned about light dispersion, but after installing its actually not bad at all. Since I only turning on the fogs at night driving I figure the wind will also cool down the light housing, but only time will tell. CHIZELD - Thanks bro, the install is very straight forward if you have some mechanical knowledge and take your time you can do it. HI MPG - I am running a Vertex front lip, will take more photos after I install carbon side skirts in two months.
Cool cool. When I did this mod in my Genii, the fogs were mucho bright. Even the squirrels nesting high in the trees thought so too.
See http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-parking-lights-rear-license-plate-bulbs.html It discusses replacing the turn signal bulbs with silver-coated bulbs so you don't get the "fried egg" look in the reflectors.
Thanks I will look into that, I had already replaced interior and exterior lights with LEDs, but turn signal is still left stock. Yes thats a real dog miniature poodle!
I had fog lights installed a little over a year ago and the bulb went out. How do I get the replacement bulb? How can I find out the part or part number? I don't believe they are LEDs.
I certainly don't recommend installing HIDs in the reflector based foglights on the Prius. I feel that there is really no cutoff, such that even a 55w halogen bulb throws a lot of light up as glare. That's why I modified 35w H8 halogen bulbs into my OEM foglights, and they're still kind of glare prone, even at it's lowest point of aim. Edit: You can see in the pics that the foglights have a lot of flare/glare in the camera lens, more so than the headlights which have a proper cutoff.
