The issue has been studied leading to this report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They found hybrid vehicles maneuvering at less than 35 mph were more likely to hit a pedestrian than ICE vehicles. Whether other 'quiet' vehicles would have an increased risk or not wasn't in the scope of the study. Still, this is a well done statistical report and shows there is some fire behind all the smoke.

I wonder why the report does not mention the driver's age in its analysis. Does the age distribution of HE and ICE vehicles match? How about the age of the drivers involved in accidents?

I was just looking to see if it was possible to disable the VPNS. I have been debating back and forth whether or not to do it. I've decided not to.

However, I am now wondering if I could customize it? Like have Fran Dreshers voice going "I'm backing up here... Hehehehehehehehe" for when I'm backing up or for when I'm driving below 15 MPH have Fran Dreshers saying "I'm driving down the road here. Heheheheheheheheh." I think THAT would get people's attention. LOL

Disabling it is doable, just unplug the speaker. Doing what you mention, not really...

I cannot understand why everyone gets fired up about the low level of sound emitted from the VPNS. You have to have windows down the radio off and be driving in a quiet ruval area to hear the sound. Relax and enjoy the ride.

I think it's very cool (and unique) to have a silent car.

If the VPNS is not disabled how is anyone going to get away with a drive-by pudding attack?

    anyone? . . . Anyone? . . . probably not . . .

Oh, so that's why the Australian one doesn't have VPNS. :)

I was showing off stealth mode to some friends when parking it a couple of weeks ago, but then in the pitch darkness of that location, when fumbling for the tiny fold-in mirrors button I missed and instead pressed the annoyingly massive headlight washer button. Fail.

PS totally off topic, but mention of pudding attack unfortunately reminds me of this. I'm sorry.
