I surf three to five times a week and I can't take my key fob with me in the water. Does anyone have advice on what I can do? Is there a hide a key solution?
If it is a smart key, I don't think any hide-a-key will work as the key will always be close enough for someone to open the door. Have you thought about some sort of water proof pocket? Found these with a quick search Waterproof Pouches
I saw that thread but was hoping there were better solutions than taking out the mechanical key from the fob and taking it with me any tying it to my wetsuit. Is there a way to use a key code or some thing that I could hide around the vehicle?
1. Remove the hard key from the FOB and put it on a string around your neck with your shark tooth. The sharks tooth is a good reminder that you're not surfing alone. 2. Wrap the FOB in foil and hide it in the car. 3. Use the hard key to lock and unlock the car door. 4. Avoid all shark teeth except the one on the string around your neck. Happy Surfing
Take the battery out of your second keyfob. Use the mechanical key to lock/unlock the door, and hold the batteryless keyfob up to the Power button to start the car. The batteryless keyfob can be stored in the car without wrapping it in foil. If somebody gets past the door lock and finds the keyfob, they'll probably still be stumped by the requirement to hold the batteryless keyfob up to the Power button.
These are all good solutions. I wish there was a better entry method than using the mechanical key...like some sort of keypad or locking mechanism outside the vehicle...but I guess that's an impossibility.
