Just wondering... In case I'm on the phone or I want to take an alternate route, I'd rather not hear the directions being read aloud as I'm driving.
You can lower the volume by touching the - button on the screen. That's independant of other volume. I don't think there is a single button to mute it.
yeah. and there's no way to mute it during a phone call easily. loved that – was talking to someone and the damn thing starts SCREAMING at how i need to continue going straight in 1 mile…ugh
Interesting... that's a step backward/different than the (totally different) nav system on Gen 2. It seems that when one is in a phone call over BT on the Gen 2 Prius nav, the voice prompts won't come thru at all, which can be a bad thing. If I muck around w/the nav (like by pressing map), then the phone call is muted (we can't hear each other), I think.
yep. now, i have no idea what the system on the advanced model works like – from the few mentions i've seen of it, it appears to be closer to the Gen 2/Gen 3.0 (pre-refresh) systems than the one in the base model. this volume problem, along with the number of steps needed to enter in a destination in the built-in nav system, is one of the reasons why i end up using my iPhone 99% of the time.
I wouldn't want to mute it, for this reason: I used to have a 2007 Prius with GPS;I was on a trip, using GPS to guide me, and got on the phone with an old friend. Our conversation went on a while, and during the chat, I would've been directed to take a turn, if the audio hadn't been automatically muted. As a result, I didn't realize my error until I passed my exit, and had to circle back. In my new PiP it doesn't mute the audio, but that's okay for me; I just turn the volume on the GPS droid so that it doesn't bother me.
