I have my car at an installation place and the head unit dash kit they ordered doesn't fit. Has anyone on here put an aftermarket stereo (double din with nav) into a 2012 Prius v and if so, what kit did you use?
All I could find is this: Alpine Perfect FIT for Toyota Prius Install an Alpine navigation system in 2009-up Toyota Prius without JBL (Model KTX-PRS8) at Crutchfield.com It's kind of expensive, and doesn't seem to be available quite yet.
I already checked on that and the Alpine website says it is not compatible with the C or V models, just the regular. It's weird that nobody has put a kit out for the V yet. Alpine is apparently working on one so I guess we will see.
Hmmm. I guess because the car has a nav already they think that not many people would be interested in swapping it out.
I wouldn't care about swapping it out, but I just did a major speaker upgrade and added a high end amp and the head unit is seriously handicapping the sound. Crappy preamp and virtually no eq options or ways to bypass the built-in eq.
Prius V (plus in EU) and C (not available in EU) have a Harmann head unit integrated with car ECUs to display more info from them. You can replace HU, but you will loose add-on functionality when replaced by 3rd solution.
I'm not sure where you live, but US versions should have XM built in. If you bought a new US version you should have a free 3 month subscription.
The Prius V model 2 does not have XM built in. A standalone XM radio would be the easiest solution but it would not be controlled by the car's display.
My mistake! I found one here for $480: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market pick Radio and 57011 or maybe this one: 2012 Toyota Camry Touch Screen Navigation Radio 57012 | eBay would work?
