this is a poll for gen2 (2004-2009) prius: What repairs did you do after passing 100k miles? Only vote if you have passed 100k miles. Thanks.
Bought it at 110K in 2010, put on 52K miles. Other than regular oil change, air filter, tire, did change 12V battery once at 140K miles, together with spark plugs, Transaxial oil, headlight bulbs, tail lights. Struts and shocks are still original. That's about the next thing I might need but not too soon I guess. So far, maintenance cost: $1.28/100 mile, which includes all parts and labor.
Bought it new, now it has 138,000 miles, and the only repair has been a catalytic converter replacement - covered under warranty. So I have paid $0 to repair this car.
I'm still under 90,000 (88xxx I think) on my 2005 but so far I've paid in order of most expensive to least expensive: Gas/Tires/Oil changes/air filters (don't track the cost on these) 12v battery ($165) v-ribbed belt 90916-02570 ($23) rear wiper insert ($6) antenna for looks ($4) I'd probably choose "other failure" on the poll since the 12v battery will leave the car unable to start (and has happened to me) until you replace it. I replaced the v-ribbed belt proactively. Still considering the years I've had it, only $200 in repairs is a good deal. From all I've read on the forums I don't expect to need any major repairs for years to come. I might do spark plugs and transaxle fluid at some point after the 100,000 mile mark but I haven't decided when.
My 2004 Prius is now at 220k miles some expensive repairs at: 150k - both main water pumps (a maintenance item) 150k - struts/shocks (also maintenance items ~$1000) 150k - Steering column (unexpected ~$1000) 175k - Replaced Stereo (flaky CD player - Pioneer ~$250) 195k - HV battery (one bad cell - ReInVolt ~$2000) 210k - 12v battery (Optima Yellow Top ~$170) JeffD
had to replace the left front wheel bearing assembly and the hybrid coolant inverter pump went out but that was covered under warranty
replaced the 12v battery with and optima @ 130K I was nursing the original with water and charging every 6month. Then the body shop killed it leaving the door open or something. I've done the plugs, HSD fluid every 60K, HID bulbs(one kept going out)30K Trunk opener turned to bubble gum 100K. It seems the parking light all went out with in a few months of each other, Now that's quality control! It has 146K on it now. Oh and I got 95K out of the original GY Integrities!
I voted no for transaxle as it was result of an accident. Only item replaced which is not mentioned in the maint. guide was serpentine belt at 125K. But even that should be actually a part of 100 or 120K maint items. Still original brakes at 185K and still going good.
Good thread, but I think it would have been more useful if the poll was: what repairs, if any, did you need in the first 100k miles. Perhaps that is what was intended, but as this poll is actually worded it appears to be open for people with arbitrarily high mileage to submit repairs that were made at mileage well in excess of 100k miles.
